Surpassed $200k investments last month, and $300k net worth this month!

We were at -$78k net worth when I discovered MMM 8 years ago.  $386k delta in 8 years is pretty insane to me.  Can't wait to see where we are in another 8 years.

Well into 7-figure territory, I’d wager. Great work!

That'd be amazing!  I'll be sure to let you know when we're both in the $1M+ thread.

First time posting in this race, I haven't logged into my MMM forum account in a while. I'm getting close! I'm going to try my best to get there by the end of the year.

These amounts only include Roth IRA, 401k, HSA, HYSA, and general investment accounts. I personally don't count any car that I own as an asset (and let's be honest, my current car is from 2007 and definitely is worth almost nothing at this point), and doesn't include my portion of the duplex that my partner and I own. That's out of pure laziness on my part to get it into my spreadsheet, but now I feel like I want to close this year out without it and then figure out how to add it to start 2025 :)

Looks like you are going to go from 250k to 500k in 2 years from Jan 2023 to Jan 2025. Basically averaging jumps of over 10k a month. Pretty awesome!

Thank you @J.P. MoreGains! I did get a new job in late 2021 that paid significantly more than what i was making before than, and then advocated for a pay raise (that i got!) in late 2022 and then received a promotion in late 2023, so that compensation increase definitely helps, along with the market recovering. I am pretty proud of myself for balancing allowing my spending to increase a little with my pay increases to enjoy the life I want now, while still maintaining a good savings rate for the life I want in the future. I appreciate the kuddos, really makes me feel like I'm doing something right :)

Hey @Nederstash, thanks! And I was wondering how things were going for you! I’ve been really lucky these past few years I got into a job where my rent is heavily subsidized, Im in a fairly high cost of living area, so that’s let me aggressively save up, however as I don’t know how much longer I’ll be able to take advantage of this situation, and not being in the market has caused me to miss out on the huge upswing in real estate here, I’m looking to buy a place in the next year or so which will probably put me back down into the 100-250 race lol. To get something affordable I’ll probably have to put a lot down, so I think we might still be neck-and-neck in real terms :)

@sportsportsports Looks like you're in an awesome spot at 32 y.o. That jump from 250k to 500k is something I'll soon embark on... next month I should hit 250k. I'd love to do that in 2 - 2.5 years. Hopefully market stays strong.

Regardless you're doing awesome at 32. I'm 45 so I feel the urgency more. I'm thinking in July I have a good chance at a raise. I've also been making big jumps, I'm up 96k this year. So hopefully keep it up and get to a point where I can enjoy life a bit more like you're doing and spend a bit more. But yes you're definitely doing something right!

I'm new to this race... I've hit 250k ($250,244.24) for now so that is good news! I may dip down below this if markets go down but at least for now I can say I've hit it.

I got paid 2,897.64 today plus 2,469.63 in gains over the past week. So that did the trick.

Really got that 500k goal on my mind. I kind of feel like working hard to get there and then maybe take a sabbatical or something.

Nice to say I have a quarter mil in investments, checking, saving.

The market has been unreal in 2023 and 2024. It feels like I am blitzing past these races.
The goal for 2025 is to invest at minimum 70k. I felt like I have reached the peak of a nurse's earning in Texas. Plan to move to North California and work my butt off next year. Any Nurses in NorCal can give any pointers?

The market has been unreal in 2023 and 2024. It feels like I am blitzing past these races.
The goal for 2025 is to invest at minimum 70k. I felt like I have reached the peak of a nurse's earning in Texas. Plan to move to North California and work my butt off next year. Any Nurses in NorCal can give any pointers?

This has been an extraordinary year, so yes it can happen.  Markets can do both things.  The key, and it sounds like you are doing it, is to keep earning more and keeping the costs as low as possible.  At this rate you will complete the next race (the one I am in) before I do.  Congrats!!!

Remarkable what the market can do for you. I've downscaled my monthly investments a bit ánd am paying significant sums out of savings each month for the remodelling of our house (we're all done inside and only working on the garden now, with some costs to isolate the house still up and coming as well). As such, any investments and savings made since the last update were for sure wiped out by these costs. Nevertheless, a decent growth for these few months.

A nice month of progress!  Although I'm a few days early for end-of-month.

A big milestone this month is that total outstanding debts were reduced below $300k, most of which is the mortgage.  The rest is my car and our student loans.

If we have another decent month in the market, I think we'll be close to $329k by the end of the year.  Would be a $100k net worth gain in 2024.

Great progress. Just passed 250k. My second job makes a big difference and it will end after December.

So need to find a way to make some extra money.

Well I graduated, and a lot sooner than I thought I would!

There's a bit of me counting my chickens before they hatch, as my explosive growth has been in side gig income and I have about $33,000 owed to me that hasn't hit my accounts yet. But these are reputable clients, so I have no doubt it'll all come though. Still hard to believe...

Wow, awesome work! This last year you killed it. It's cool to look at all your entries... they are more than just numbers on a screen. Each is a month of hard work and just sticking with it over time.

You must have an awesome side gig. 33k is great. I'm looking to replace my second job... the second job makes a big difference.

Well I graduated, and a lot sooner than I thought I would!

The side gig has helped me triple my income the last two months, doubled it in September. I've been at it for a while though and just got incredibly fortunate in the last little while. Have no idea how long I'll be riding this wave, but I'll keep at it as long as it's lucrative.

My goal is 500k in April, 2027.  Seems a little conservative at this point in time, but who knows.

Well, it happened sooner than I thought it would...but I've reached graduation!! This month was great for my investments, so I'm hoping there isn't a big drop-off soon. But I'm pretty proud of myself thus far, and for graduating this race in less than 2 years! Crazy to see how far I've been able to come since early 2018, when I started tracking my net worth. For reference, this includes cash, retirement, and other investment accounts. On-to the next one, see you all there!

Well hello, folks! Very happy to be joining you this month from the 250k thread!

EOY 2019 = $32,211.58
EOY 2020 = $79,741.14
EOY 2021 = $137,899.88
EOY 2022 = $141,965.79
EOY 2023 = $214,272.39
Jan 2024 = $220,715.53 (+$6,443.14)
Feb 2024 = $231,709.07 (+$10,993.54)
Mar 2024 = $242,909.50 (+$11,200.43)
Apr 2024 = $236,738.55 (-$6,170.95)
May 2024 = $249,657.70 (+$12,919.15)
June 2024 = $260,363.33 (+$10,7738.63)

My projections have me graduating in exactly five years. Currently saving 70% (which is only $2800/mo. on my paltry public librarian salary) but my housing situation will change in the next few years and that rate will drop below 50%, so we'll see what happens...

First major goalpost is the inflection point where my investment gains start averaging more than I can contribute, which I think is somewhere around $350k

July 2024 = $263,986.09 (+$3,589.76)
August 2024 = $275,789,76 (+$11,803.67)
September 2024 = $282,795.64 (+$7,005.88)
October 2024 = $283,133.97 (+$338.33)
November 2024 = $300,091.17 (+$16,957.20)

Well shit, what a difference the last few months have made! My investments have gone up by a whopping $50k in only the last six months, which is pretty much my entire salary, so that's just wild. Updated projections have shaved a whole year off my anticipated graduation date, which is now halfway through 2028. And of course I know that the pace of the last six months can't continue indefinitely, but if it did I'd be only two years away and graduating by the end of 2026!

Keep on keeping on, my friends!

Nov-24   $502,130.29

Nice work! Congrats!

Nice work indeed.  With the gains I have made it is hard to imagine that I only graduated this thread 4-5 months ago.  I still feel more like this one, where we are all really grinding.

@J.P. Moregains hope you are still thriving in your very mustachian living arrangement.  Still rooting for you to keep it up. I am sure it isn't easy, but praying for your continued safety, willpower, and success.

What is your target number?

Not entirely sure, but probably a million? My napkin math says I could be ten years away... Lots of questions marks, and I might just resign myself to coasting until much closer to traditional retirement age so I can hang on to that sweet, sweet employer-sponsored health insurance. Shrug.

$334,000 yesterday, $6 k short & $328K long. Paid for house & car. Live on less than $25 k per year, so the 4% rule says I need another $666 k or so. If only I had started saving before my late 40's.

I kind of feel the same... I kind of feel a million would be solid for a guy like me. In my mind 500k is a huge milestone, but that would be pretty lean even if I live in an affordable country.

Plus now that I have momentum I don't want to leave a job half done. But maybe I do coast a bit, or maybe I take a sabbatical but I fear stepping away and it taking a long time to get momentum again.

Either way... let's get to that 500k and graduate to the next challenge!

If only I had started saving before my late 40's.

I'm mid 40s and wish I would've known this when I was younger. I never knew there was an FI option by just saving as much as possible.

So lucky this is a thing even now... I can make up for decades lost. I mean either way it will take a decade of work and sacrifice. Hoping to be done by 50 so I can get on with other things in life.

Kind of cool that the internet is a thing and a message like this can get out there from a guy like MMM. I'm such a believer of this thing.

Going to Mexico tomorrow... took out a bunch of cash for expenses there so calculating my stats now for this year.

2024 Summary
My income after taxes was: $98,748.01
My total spend was: $23,401.63
My total save was: $75,346.38
My savings rate: 76.3%
I'm up a total of: $110,571.35 this year
So $35,224.97 of my total plus was market gains

Honestly, spent too much money. I think 25% (likely more) was on travel.

2 jobs plus tax advantage accounts (401k, 457b, 401a) allowed me to save way more than normally possible.

So grateful! I'm really blessed. What a great year!

It was a pretty small gain for December, but still a successful year overall for my family.

Dec 2023 - $217k NW, $150k Invested
Dec 2024 - $324k NW, $224k Invested
Delta - +$107k NW, $74k Invested
Avg - +$8,917 NW/mo, $6,167 Invested/mo
Goal 2025 - $400k NW, $300k Invested
Goal Avg - $6,334 NW/mo, $6,334 Invested/mo

My income for 2025 looks like it may be a bit lower, and I doubt the market will be quite as strong next year.  To reach my 2025 goal, we will need to increase our savings rate slightly.  I think it's doable even if income drops a bit.  We had some unusual expenses this year.

What does Delta mean? Why Delta? I get you're up 107k this year but not sure what that word means.

Awesome work!

This is mind-boggling to me.  I'm impressed!  What is your living situation that allows such low spend?
