Investments only.

The market drop hurt more this month.  I was under $250 at the worst of it and still lost money after adding $10,600.  I'm pretty certain that my graduation target will have to move, but I won't reassess that until I start moving in the correct direction again.  Coded Feb. and March green for the pandemic per @dreadmoose.  Good idea to call it out.

02/01/2020 $500,122.00!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I graduated!! I'm not introducing myself to the next group yet though, we'll see if it holds.

02/01/2020 $500,122.00
03/01/2020 $497,515

Knew I wasn't ready to leave you folks. Markets this week slowing down the progress. This has been the first time I've ever sold bonds to re-balance though. Overpaid income taxes this year and expecting a few thousand bucks return to re-graduate me again, probably by next month. Good luck to you all during this bit of stock market turmoil and let's cross our fingers jobs don't start getting affected.

I'm going to stick around with you folks longer. Busy as can be, but glad I work in an essential service and am still working. Should be saving lots of money working from home and still collecting pay cheques. That variable rate mortgage is going to save me big bucks too! Debating whether to put more money towards the mortgage and pay it off sooner, put it into the stock market, or increase cash in case this economic situation continues to worsen. What's everyone else doing?

Why not lock in a fixed rate now that rate are so low again?

Missed March tracking since I was in the middle of moving (spending lots of money).  Then the market tanked.  Fortunately I started my new job prior to that, so I should be ok as far as job security and all.  Assessing the damage done, it actually doesn't look that bad for me, especially considering moving expenses which were north of $5k and the month break I took between my jobs (no income during spendy period).  Only a small net worth setback to October of last year (so far).

Next month I'll figure out the fancy tables some of you are using and make it look nicer.

I just started getting permission denied on the spreadsheet - anyone else?

I don't remember previously needing to request permission

Yep same for me, @McStache

I think the owner of the sheet has to recreate it, hope there is a recent backup.

First number is retirement savings, second is total NW including cash emergency savings and real estate equity.

September 2019: $261,238 (total NW $387,863)
October 2019: $260,934 (total NW $381,797)
November 2019: $280,569 (total NW $405,660)
December 2019: $292,062 (total NW $423, 991)
January 2020: $299,351 (total NW $430,390)
February 2020: $281,810 (total NW $412,616) ouch!
March 2020: $249,818 (total NW $390,340) double ouch!
April 2020: $273,408 (total NW $426,464)

Looks like I get to stay for now. Got a significant tax refund this month due to some losses claimed against some property I own which I turned around and invested. Hope everyone is doing as well as can be during these times.

Will update for April in a few days, but had some time to convert the data to the table format.  Updated. Thanks @dogboyslim for the format.

Note: I'm not working ATM and not sure when I'll be going back, so no projected graduation currently.

Nice bump back up this month. Still fully employed, working from home. I am hearing a lot of rumblings about furloughs. I would not be surprised if my position is effected over the summer. We'll be fine expenses-wide, but it will certainly hurt the amount we dump into investment accounts.

Bouncing back up with market rally. I expect more volatility on the horizon, but sticking to my plan of continuing to dump money into the market in the meantime.

Dec-19 $391000 - INV ---> Very pleased with $162000 increase in investments and cash this year. Thank you downturn in 2018. Lets keep this up people.
                                        Happy new year, new decade!
Feb-20 $377000 - INV ---> I was looking forward to market opportunity and here it is. Welcome back Volatility! I am buying.
Mar-20 $320000 - INV ---> I have been buying. Hoping this sale continues for a while. Maxed out IRAs and investing in taxable now. Trying to refinance
mortgage to free up some cash-flow. For anyone in this race this is the time to double down.
Apr-20 $374000 - INV ---> Refinanced our 15 yr fixed mortgage to 30 yr fixed and a significant pay increase kicked into effect as well. These monthly
cash flow improvements and reduced expenses will boost monthly additions to investments by $1600.

Job has been stable so far, though we froze hiring and raises this year so who knows what could come this summer.

Only tracking personal liquid stash and do not include my wife's savings or any Real Estate equity at this point

Invested: $270922 (+~7k)
Total net worth: $495000

Ended month on a down day but that's just a blip on the chart soon.

Pleased to have stayed in this thread with $260287 liquid. I had already decided to start maximizing my 401k early so that came in handy. excited to see what will happen when the market starts recovering.
Well, dropped below the lower end of this thread for now: $238521 liquid and about $450k total net worth following a drop in home value as well.

Just gotta keep plugging along.
Back up to about $275k liquid, so firmly back in the thread. Will update with more detail tomorrow.

More specifics: HSA $14912 + 401k/Roth/Taxable $259271 = $274183

Home equity dropped a bit, so would put total NW around $490k

Not a perfect run, but it's aiming back up... I expect the market to go down again before this is all over, BUT not gonna worry.  Just keep at it, and steady as she goes.
Granted this went up with a spending of 3 times what I earn in a month so....  Woot taxes and other unavoidable spending all being due in one month....  (Yes federal taxes got extended but I'd rather be done with it then sit on it another 3 months)  Think I need a drink of that boxed wine!

I just started getting permission denied on the spreadsheet - anyone else?

https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1AU7U1LTOW0D-_TiWUZJ7OSolSB_ULYQC2ZWSNW5hig0/edit#gid=0

I don't remember previously needing to request permission

That's weird, I didn't change any permissions and I didn't get any notifications that people had requested access. Hopefully the Google Glitch is fixed now?

Look like it must be, I see some data in the 2020.05 column :)

I'm surprised by the market recovery, I feel like this is a false recovery due to people's optimism about the economy opening up again.  I think the second wave of coronavirus will see the market crashing again.  I guess we will just have to wait and see.

I'd like to think the market has turned around, but I still expect another drop before we are back to "normal."  I pushed my target graduation out 4 months.  :(

Back to all cash? How often and what do you use to trigger that?

I assume you know the stats on market timing vs a steady IPS that you can follow, I just wonder what makes someone decide to take huge swings against all common advice.

Once every decade or so,  when it's obvious there's something very,  very wrong with the economy and market.

Of course in the current environment of unlimited QE, zero and potential negative interest,  FED directly buying corporate bonds and may directly buy stocks in the future, going back to cash is a gamble.  Still testing the water to see if it's safe to get back in and seeing market climbed while multiple businesses getting downgraded was enough for me to get back out.
