Hi All,

I just graduated from to 100K-250K thread.

I have also added myself to the google tracking sheet for this thread. (https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1AU7U1LTOW0D-_TiWUZJ7OSolSB_ULYQC2ZWSNW5hig0/)

As I'm living and getting payed in the Netherlands, all my numbers are in EUR.
growth = difference with month before
deposits = money I added to the stash.

Only counting my "Early Retirement stash". So this does not include my emergency-fund, pension capital, or payed-off residence. These are the "end of the month" numbers:
Month      Early Retirement Stash
Jan 2016   €  58 971.00
Jan 2017   €  86 368.00
Jan 2018   € 119 817.00
Jan 2019   € 145 840.48
...
Dec 2019   € 195 798.72   (growth:  € 6 723.04 deposits:  € 3 600.00)
Totals for 2019: growth:  € 60 523.78 (=44.70%) Deposits: € 22 925.00 Returns: € 37 598.78 (=20.38%)

Jan 2020  € 198 632.07   (growth:  € 2 833.35)
Feb 2020  € 193 987.01   (growth: -€ 4 645.06)

May 2020  € 209 540.07   (growth:  € 8 802.95 deposits: € 5 855.37)
Jun 2020  € 214 045.88   (growth:  € 4 505.81 deposits: € 3 240.00)
Jul 2020  € 220 555.81   (growth:  € 6 509.93 deposits: € 4 324.66)
Aug 2020  € 237 427.24   (growth:  €16 871.43 deposits: € 5 462.50)
Sep 2020  € 235 543.53   (growth: -€ 1 883.71 deposits: € 1 058.72)

Nov 2020  € 262 121.50   (growth:  €23 798.58 deposits: € 6 521.65)

Unexpected graduation? Did not expect to blow past the target this month already. Got a big push from the market.
Thanks for all the inspiration.

Investments only

 1/2017   - 34,633
 1/2018   - 56,928 (+22,295)
 1/2019   - 98,248 (+41,320)

 1/2020   - 176,153 (+77,905)
 2/2020   - 182,362 (+6,209)
 3/2020   - 171,868 (-10,494)
 4/2020   - 178,606 (+6,738)
 5/2020   - 255,004 (+76,398) - sold house, dumped money in market
6/2020   - 287,981 (+32,977) - put more money in market from house sale
 8/2020   - 326,686 (+38,705)
 9/2020   - 336,875 (+10,189)
10/2020  - 338,532 (+1,657)
11/2020  - 332,899 (-5,633)
12/2020  - 396,311 (+63,412) - huge increase due to market run up post election (like everyone else)

I'm hopeful to pass 400k with the remainder of our 401k contributions and there being no pull backs in the market. This has been a wild year for us investment wise, but don't necessarily expect to have a huge increase throughout the year like this again in future years. Huge increase was due to a house sale where we put much of the proceeds into the market. This is not normal for us.

Hi all!

Making the jump up from the 100K to 250K thread.

I've broken out the numbers into individual and joint (with DW) net worth. We do not own a house (yet), so numbers reflect cash/equivalents and retirement accounts. Our only debt is whatever is currently on our credit cards, which gets paid off each month. Below are our numbers, dating back to when we first joined the last thread. Initially it was my own journey, but at this stage in my marriage it made sense to report the joint numbers which I had already been tracking.

                  Solo NW      Joint NW
4/30/2020 -       101,897        203,198
5/31/2020 -       109,544        218,023
6/30/2020 -       114,288        227,585
7/31/2020 -       117,338        236,196
8/31/2020 -       128,213        251,254
9/30/2020 -       125,543        246,779
10/31/2020 -     130,200        251,727
11/30/2020 -  141,260       266,097

As you can see we've been teetering on the line for a few months now, but we've blown past the mark this month so I figured it was time to graduate. Looking forward to sharing our journey to 500K with the rest of you.

Also joining this thread sooner than expected thanks to the market gains!  I was in the $100k to $250k thread for 18 months.  Let's see how long the next $250k takes :)

Holy crab cakes I've missed a few updates!  I have the numbers, but lazy person syndrome...  The short story is, I spent too much, (new House Siding, Woot?) and have been working to re-control expenses.   Despite that, seems I've still added some cash to me small chunk.
Looking WAY WAY back it seems I made the guess I'd hit between 400-410k this year.  Not sure I will actually hit that, but it's gonna be close.  Which is a HECK of a lot better then what I originally though based on my expenses this year.

Hope everyone else is getting the same surprise, we definitely need more good news like that this year.

This is the third month I've been above 500k mid-month, but the first one I've made it over at end of month accounting time.  Third time's the charm I guess?

I also just crossed the $250K mark this past month.  I had projected it would take 2.5-3 years to go from $100K to $250K and it actually took 1.75 thanks to the market tailwinds and a small windfall.  Based on my spreadsheet, I project I'll hit $500K in 4ish years - though who really knows.  This time frame lines up with about when I turn 30 and it would be awesome to be a half-millionaire by then (two Nice Round Numbers at once!), so I will shoot for that.

This journey ended up taking 3 and a bit years vs my initial estimate of 4ish.  This year in particular has been a bit of a net worth rollercoaster, but staying the course seems be working out!  I've made my line from the google sheet(https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1AU7U1LTOW0D-_TiWUZJ7OSolSB_ULYQC2ZWSNW5hig0/edit#gid=1302523503) absurdly big to show off my progress below.

Welcome to all the new racers and congrats to my fellow graduates!

It's actually working.  I remember when I first found MMM a few years ago and started saving I marveled at people on these threads that were seeing $10k+ monthly savings increases. Now here I am with a year-to-year where I managed to put away $134k.  It is one thing to understand the math and something completely different to actually see it work!

I have no idea how it happened, I guess market gains. We even dropped from 2 earners to one because of Covid. Anyway, onward to 1M I guess. I didn't really plan to go that high, but why not.

Dec.   3, 2020         $296,200.72

12/9/2020 - Quick update as I broke $300k for the first time @ $300,534.49.  I am not sure why that is such a big deal to me, but it is.  Long way to go for FIRE or for me likely FI (almost 50 yr. old).  Anyone else feel that way about breaking three hundo?  I finally feel like compounding is going to make significant differences along with my savings.  For so long it has felt more like what I could save, but now starting to see compounding destroy what I saved.  Almost a 5:1 difference in 2020.

Congratulations! Nice seeing all that hard work pay off right?

I can relate - I hit 250k in January (again in April) - it has been a wild ride since. Looking at the projections I made on Jan 1st compared to now - I am up $60k from where I thought I would be and still have 2 paychecks and end of year bonus to go. I plan for +6% (9%-3% inflation) per year in my projections, this year I am up over 15% plus a bit of rebalancing magic for another few %. Might hit 400k 6 months early if the markets hold up this month. Nice to see that green army making moves - basically have a full-time job at $20/hr that I don't have to show up to but still get paid for!

Taxable Investments only.

I haven't updated in quite a while.  My job was eliminated this year, but I was able to find a similar one with no gap in employment.  Before we were sure I'd have a job, we paid the rest of our mortgage balance off in August to get our cash flows down to something we could handle on Mrs. DBS's income, and that came from this account.  Now we are working to get the balances back up, but I don't see graduation in 2021 without a miracle.  Since I view the market as severely inflated right now, I suspect it could be a painful year for returns, but since you never know, I'm still contributing.

Congrats on movin' on up, @MrThatsDifferent and @jda85!

The Miller clan just hit $484K here in mid-December, so yes I'm checking my accounts way too frequently still.

I've graduated to this thread now. I went from 100 - 250k between June 2017 and December 2019, so a year and a half. In line with the concept behind this thread, it Would be pretty cool to take the same amount of time to double my money again but not sure I see that as realistic. An easy riding up up up market has been the ticket so far I feel like.
Checking back in to post at the end of the year...I stopped checking my accounts /overall net worth this year. I think it's been a good move and a healthy thing to do. Was looking at them too much before. Now I hope to just look at them at year end, and maybe when making big financial decisions.

I stopped checking them just before COVID got bad. Checked back in this week and I'm at $351k! Up 100k from last time I posted. Nice!

Although... I'm about to do some year end/catch-up giving, so that'll knock me back below $350k.

First number is retirement savings & other long term investments, second is total NW including cash emergency savings and real estate equity. I'm focused on retirement only for this challenge rather than total NW.

October 2019: $260,934 (total NW $381,797)
November 2019: $280,569 (total NW $405,660)
December 2019: $292,062 (total NW $423,991)
January 2020: $299,351 (total NW $430,390)
February 2020: $281,810 (total NW $412,616) ouch!
March 2020: $249,818 (total NW $390,340) double ouch!
April 2020: $273,408 (total NW $426,464)
May 2020: $300,289 (total NW $453,672)
June 2020: $313,013 (total NW $456,056)
July 2020: $330,819 (total NW $473,215)
August 2020 $351,475 (total NW $498,660)
September 2020: $343,809 (total NW $480,842)
October 2020: $342,336 (total NW $516,708)
November 2020: $384,727 (total NW $562,723)
December 2020: $398,408 (total NW $572,704)
Total retirement increase for 2020: $106,346
Total NW increase for 2020: $148,713

What a year! I feel so fortunate to still be employed and to have the luxury of being able to continue to max out my retirement savings. Here's hoping 2021 is brighter for all.

Here goes nothing!

I've kept an eye on threads like this for some time now but never felt my numbers were worth posting although I've been tracking them for a few years now. When I look back at my progress, it sure is inspiring to see what steady improvements to your personal finance can do for your investments. Increased savings rate, LBYM, raising TSP contributions, etc. These have all helped me on this journey to where I am today.

I just wish that I had joined this group earlier. Good luck to everyone!!

I'm in, I track by investment dollars since I am in my forever home and never intend to sell it.  Hopefully I will hit 500K in investments sometime in 2021.  Looking back, I put a down payment down on a house in 2018 of 20k, but must of been a relatively low return year as well that year.

November 30, 2020 - $252,566

Quite a jump this month, much of which was from my ESOP shares getting their 2020 (increased) valuation.

Getting close to moving on up! Perhaps by January or February? All depends on the market.

I went ahead and chopped our net worth history to quarterly, because going from $500K to $1M (hopefully) is gonna be a looooooong slog.

My annual bonus paid out this month.  Never had a bonus for the whole year get paid out in one lump sum before - easily makes this my highest cash inflow month (and coincidentally one of the lowest outflow months) of my career. Stocks being on a rise doesn't hurt, either.

Stretch goal for the year was increase NW by $100K - nailed it and then some!  Expenses were crazy low this year & if they return to normal it looks like I should be able to graduate in October 2023 with a decent market.

Household net for 2 adults:

05/2020: 203K
06/2020: 225K
07/2020: 236k
08/2020: 252k
09/2020: 264k
10/2020: 262k
11/2020: 271k
12/2020: 297k

01/2021: 303k

Some of the market gains were offset by closing and title fees for the refinance, but it feels good to cross into to 300k range!

I have also added myself to the google tracking sheet for this thread. (https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1AU7U1LTOW0D-_TiWUZJ7OSolSB_ULYQC2ZWSNW5hig0/)
As I'm living and getting payed in the Netherlands, all my numbers are in EUR.
Only counting my "Early Retirement stash". So this does not include my emergency-fund, pension capital, or payed-off residence. These are the "end of the month" numbers:
Month      Early Retirement Stash   (growth=diff with prev. month deposits=money added)
Jan 2016   €  58 971.00
Jan 2017   €  86 368.00
Jan 2018   € 119 817.00
Jan 2019   € 145 840.48
