2019:
Jan-  240.0
Feb- 262.7
Mar- 279.6
Apr- 295.8
May- 299.9
Jun- 283.1

Jul- 302.6
Well, the market hides many sins ;) We finally broke $300k! Got so close back in May.
We also shifted some categories around. Pregnancy is going well, so we're finally feeling confident we won't immanently need IVF money (plus, husband's new job has full fertility coverage! WHAAAAAT!), plus we've accepted we won't be buying a house again any time soon, so no downpayment needed. Opted to pay off our car loan and the remainder of my student loans in full. They were good rates, but we weren't investing the money, and would prefer the cash flow boost instead. Plus the mental boost of 'debt free before the baby gets here'. Even though we already had the money on hand, it still feels different to have it gone.

Mint is now yelling at us to add something to the 'loan' category ;) New MPP I guess!

A good MPP indeed! @Bracken_Joy Congrats on 300K!!!

Preparation to have kids has been good motivators to build wealth in our family. Especially to bring SO on board with goals and approach to reach them. Our goal was to reach 300K for first one and 500K by the time we have second. We didn't reach the first goal, hopefully reach second, i.e early next year.

I have been gone awhile...but Littles will fo that to you. Hard to believe its been 9 months since my last update!

We have transitioned to a single income family and are focusing mostly on paying down our equity and car loans right now while saving as much as we can for retirement. Of course we have some extra expenses for out building still but hopefully by the end of the year we will be able to start using the shop to being in some extra cash too.

Pretty decent month. My actual savings was a bit over $19k, then a bit of stock market growth. We sold our camping trailer for $4150 which helped offset the cost of last months new trailer purchase a little bit.

August is a 3 pay check month so we should be looking at around $23k-$25k in savings depending on a few things. I hit the max social security contributions at the end of July, so that should bump our take home a bit. My wife started dog sitting during the day (lady drops her dog off in the morning and picks her up in the afternoon) and that gets us about $500/mo extra.

I am slightly concerned regarding our taxes as I claim married and 2, when we don’t have children. I did the same last year, but I also switched jobs in the summer so I wayyyy over contributed to S.S., so I got a huge chunk back there and it mostly balanced out. I know that the “smart” thing to do would be to not care and if I have to pay in, I pay in.. I have more than enough cash in my emergency fund to not think twice about, but I feel like if I have to pay in $10k, it’ll mentally annoy me a bit. Maybe what I could do is instead of considering it in my “spending” for next year in the month I pay it, I could actually just take it out of my 2019 total earnings.

Few things to think about.. Still on track to hit 500k by October or November if the market stays level. This would put me going from $250k to $500k over 17-18 months.. Pretty wild to think about.

I bought a house.  I expected my net worth to have plummeted but it's shockingly close (now including home equity at the price I paid).

I am likely doing a solar install which will add a chunk to the debt column but will be cash-flow positive from the beginning, so that'll be an odd complication to my (usually simple) net worth calculation.  Maybe it'll be worth breaking out a difference in debt between 0% stuff (state-subsidized energy efficiency program for updated insulation / air sealing), solar stuff, and mortgage?

   Date (2019)       Liquid NW            Comments
   Jan 1       $212,860
   Feb 1       $230,743

   Apr 1       $252,750
   May 1       $263,658
   June 1       $252,691
   July 1       $287,493 (+34,802)

Yay for sales and bonus hours! I store up my extra hours in my corporation and fill my RRSP when my CPP contributions are complete so that's usually June. Timing worked out this year so far, onward and upward!

I don't count my house equity, so this is just investments minus loans (I invest instead of paying off my low interest loans).

I just hopped on the $500K to $1M thread using my NW number... but I'd like to hang out here to track progress of investments only, sans home equity!

01/1/18 $244K
04/1/18 $259K
07/1/18 $282K
10/1/18 $314K

01/1/19 $289K -- market drop
04/1/19 $351K
07/1/19 $380K

Does not include roughly $30K in cash that we usually keep on hand.

Currently projecting that we'll cross $500K in invested assets early in 2021.

Have tuition payments for my MBA that are holding me back a bit but get 40% reimbursed by my employer later on. I've also hit the point in the year where some of the Canadian taxes stop (EI, CPP). Pay cheques for the rest of the year come with a few hundred dollars extra :)

I have a very nice DB pension plan at work. My boss and I were going through everyone's expected date until retirement the other day based on max pension where he told me I had 26 years to go. I told him 26 years sounds way too long and that's to get max pension, not necessarily to retirement.  Not sure he could fathom anyone retiring early! At least I'll have that option far earlier than 26 years from now...

Congrats @2Birds1Stone!! Is this one of the birds you hit with your stone. :) - Hope you are celebrating your success.

Yesterday I shared with my in-laws that we are "half-a-millionaires" based on total net worth, hoping to have a surprise celebration for our success so far on independence day. Disappointingly, Mother-in-law didn't even acknowledge the news. She was having none of it. All day long she kept changing the subject when I hint of our achievement.

Jun-29-19: $322k with $197k invested and $125k home equity.

Feels a bit like cheating but talked to the wifey yesterday and she was sort of surprised I wasn't considering 100% of home equity in our planning. With the extra equity I guess we are at about $447k.

She is already retired and our plan is to live mostly off of her retirement for the first 5 years or so and let the stashe grow considerably at that time if it means we can expedite the timeline a lot. She is significantly older than me which makes for an odd dynamic.

We're still waiting for our DB pension statements so I can't do a proper update but we have definitely passed Ł333,333 so we are officially one third millionaires!

Two days early just because...

Investments only
May: $251,222
June: $380,473 <-- combined accounts with DH
July: $423,417
Aug: $436, 413

Started living on one salary. We'll wait a few months before we start to invest the difference to be sure it's sustainable first.

35% of a millionaire! Very spendy month but still managed a 35% savings rate due to a bonus and some extra side hustle income this month.

Refinancing our mortgage since rates have dropped lately - hopefully updating my home equity estimate when the appraisal comes in.

I just cam by to see how long it's taken other people here to get from 250 to 500. Seems like the average is about 3-4 years?

I think I hit 250 somewhere around mid-2016. Took a year sabbatical away from work last year. I think we'll hit 500 sometime mid to late next year. So 3 years with not working one of those year.

I keep going back and forth on how much longer I want to work for money. There are a few irons in the fire that might help me make my decision. Looking at an estimation chart going from 500k to 1.2mil take about 8-12 years which means I don't need to keep working in my current position. I want to find a job that I can travel with/ work abroad in. I think 500k before I'm 30 is enough to say that I should be finding work that I want to do instead of going to full FIRE.

I wasn't counting home equity back then, but I hit 250k in mid 2016
400k end of 2017
395k end of 2018 (I volunteered full time from summer 2017 through spring 2018)
Currently at somewhere around 500k at mid 2019.

Our aim is to retire between 1.25 to 3 million depending on how we like our work/ needs/ wants in the next 5 to 12 years when we expect to be in that range.

Keep at it guys. You can all get there. I think it's strange when you're at 400, 500 sounds like so much. Now 600 or 700 sounds like a lot.

I'm now moving on to the next level. I expect to hit 1MM in 4-5 years. See you guys there.

Mar-18   $249550-INV  $381297 - NW ---> fell below 250K, what a rollercoaster this year has been!
Apr-18   $252,693 - INV $385,040 - NW
May-18  $263,950 - INV $396,500 - NW
June-18 $268,500 - INV $401,900 - NW ---> hope markets stay low for a while.
July-18  $279,100 - INV $414,336 - NW
Aug-18 $291293 - INV $ 376293 - NW ---> Writing off 51k, we are building a house.
Sep-18 $292395 - INV $377395 - NW---> Lots of unexpected expenses this month. My job is also not on firm ground. Bad new manager situation. Starting new job search.Anyone have job for me :)
Oct-18  $271500 - INV $357200 - NW ---> Yay volatility
Nov-18 $279200 - INV $365200 - NW ---> Big spending month, over $10000 unexpected spending on Medical expenses, travel reservations, hotels, electronics, shopping deals and gifts. Also got new job, lateral move.
Dec-18 $257500 - INV $344000 - NW ---> Hope this market remains low or flat for next couple of months so I can plough more money in. Happy new year you all! It is interesting that the assets like primary home provide so much stability in rough times. If we have a paid off home or enough cash to pay it off safely invested it provides much safety in difficult times.
Jan-19 $290132 - INV $373300 - NW ---> Big bounce back. But I wish it came after Feb. Its likely there will be more opportunities due to various uncertainties in current short term.
Feb-19 $317800 - INV $406000 - NW ---> Big payday of the year helped cross 300k easily.
Mar-19 $323000 - INV $411500 - NW ---> Not much to say this month. we went on 2nd vacation of the year already and so associated expenses affected the growth.
Apr-19 $337600 - INV $426600 - NW  ---> Expensive month, we paid for family member's medical expenses. Tragic situation at young age. Makes a strong case for big emergency fund.
May-19 $326000 - INV $416000 - NW ---> Yay! Volatility. I was able to add few hundred $s more than usual to investments. @Epor Usually about $6000 a month in addition to savings currently, rest gains or losses in market. It motivates me to compare with high savers, that way I tend to push a little harder or keep consistent. Its a race alright!
Jun-19 $348000 - INV $439000 - NW ---> DW's pregnant with our second baby :), That means now I have to plan for big expenses.. Minivan, Medical expense and more. I am trying convince DW that we can put off buying minivan for another 2 years. Wish me luck!
Jul-19 $355000 - INV $546000 - NW ---> Construction on real estate we were building completed, so added its value back into Net worth.

Up $7,042 to $352,365. Up $84,681 yoy. Higher expenses, lower income. August will be similar, unfortunately. My father suffered a massive heart attack and passed away early in July. Its been quite a ride figuring everything out. Still working on a few things, including my mom's financial situation now.
