Investments only, sans home equity:

01/1/18 $244K
04/1/18 $259K
07/1/18 $282K
10/1/18 $314K

01/1/19 $289K - this was all market drop; savings were normal during this time
04/1/19 $351K
07/1/19 $380K
10/1/19 $384K - pulled a chunk out of our HSA to pay for childbirth costs incurred earlier in the year; also started daycare; husband took 2 months unpaid paternity leave... savings rate currently in the toilet

Does not include roughly $30K in cash.

Anticipated graduation: early 2021

Haven't updated here for a while, but actually graduated recently and have no one in real life to celebrate with, so here goes!

Investments only, sans home equity:

01/1/18 $244K
04/1/18 $259K
07/1/18 $282K
10/1/18 $314K

01/1/19 $289K - this was all market drop; savings were normal during this time
04/1/19 $351K
07/1/19 $380K
10/1/19 $384K - pulled a chunk out of our HSA to pay for childbirth costs incurred earlier in the year; also started daycare; husband took 2 months unpaid paternity leave... savings rate temporarily in the toilet

1/1/20 $445K
4/1/20 $373K - all market drop; no behavior change
7/1/20 $477K
8/1/20 $508K

Does not include roughly $30K in cash.

Graduated roughly 6-8 months sooner than what I expected. TBD whether I stay graduated or if the market goes back down again... I think the interesting things for me here are: (1) focusing on throwing most extra $$ into investments is paying off in moving things along faster, and (2) introducing a child to our life impacted our savings pace less than I would have thought. There was an impact for sure, but we got back to hustling to make up for it.

Congrats @Lucky Recardito ! We just tipped over this month as well. We will see if ours sticks as well.

We had a baby in October and things are still humming asking for us too. I feel like we keep getting lucky and saving now than expected.

Joining the club.

Currently at $330,000 (counting only invested money)
Have the ability to save $37k a year.
Plan on hitting $500k in September 2023.
This of course depends on how well the market performs.

I've looked through several posts on this thread. Some people are able to save a lot more than me and others less. Regardless of your circumstance, consistency is key. Good luck everyone.

First number is retirement savings & other long term investments, second is total NW including cash emergency savings and real estate equity. I'm focused on retirement only for this challenge rather than total NW.

September 2019: $261,238 (total NW $387,863)
October 2019: $260,934 (total NW $381,797)
November 2019: $280,569 (total NW $405,660)
December 2019: $292,062 (total NW $423, 991)
January 2020: $299,351 (total NW $430,390)
February 2020: $281,810 (total NW $412,616) ouch!
March 2020: $249,818 (total NW $390,340) double ouch!
April 2020: $273,408 (total NW $426,464)
May 2020: $300,289 (total NW $453,672)
June 2020: $313,013 (total NW $456,056)
July 2020: $330,819 (total NW $473,215)

With the Coronavirus market bust inexplicably behind us, I decided I could look at my accounts again.  Turns out that after going back and filling out the missing months things weren't so bad. My non-equity investments never dropped below 250k (so I can stay in this group), and are actually up about 13% for the year (although at least half of that is contributions, not earnings)

5th month in a row my portfolio made more than I did. Feels pretty good.

Although - the portfolio is about 1/4 the size it should be to do this sustainably. If I could put up numbers like this every month I would quit tomorrow.

I did tell DW that out portfolio is bringing in about as much as a full time job at minimum wage. Which is also a neat milestone. No more second jobs for me.

@UnleashHell @nick663 @neo von retorch @ingrownstudentloans @fuzzy math  you are close to graduation,do you have projected graduation dates?
Thanks!  Q3 might happen if the market continues upward like it has been but realistically we're probably looking at Q4.
@oneday

Funny, I punched some numbers in today (401ks, investments) and as of today we would graduate to the next thread.

We only calculate NW quarterly though so hopefully it holds or continues to go up until end of September.  What a weird and crazy year it has been.

May-20 $403000 - INV ---> Above the previous high.

Its been a while since I checked in here. Good to see so many of us moving to next races.

Aug-20 - Our liquid stash is at $467,000 and total net worth at $678,000. In last 6 months we invested well over 50K. Hope our luck continues.

Seems like our stash is at a place where growth seems to come in hurry with market improvements.

December$128,335$207,436$281,461$391,293--

Another big bump this month. I still keep expecting more market volatility, but it keeps going up. Regardless, we're so far from our RE number that we'll just keep pumping money in no matter what happens with the market.

At this rate, we'll graduate next month. Which would be just shy of 4 years since we started tracking and 2. Before that we were on the typical retirement path saving roughly 10% for the 9 working years prior. Oh where we could be if we'd buckled down earlier... but! At least we were saving something and had a foundation to start with.

3/1/19 - $268,584 // $154,100
4/1/19 - $281,161 // $160,561
5/1/19 - $287,799 // $169,570
6/1/19 - $299,560 // $163,398
7/1/19 - $309,640 // $178,229
8/1/19 - $317,066 // $185,846

7/1/20 - $399,404 // $257,588
8/1/20 - $417,420 // $269,617
Outside outside chance at graduating from this group by the end of the year! Would require a 20% increase in net worth over the next five months.

9/1/20 - $440,121 // $291,650

Graduation now requires "only" a 13.6% increase.

Hello there! New to this thread (a little late in joining), hoping to get to $500k in the next 2-3 years or so depending on my job/bonus.

2020 numbers below. Market bounced back and I may have bought my house at a good time (offer accepted in January, closed in June due to some seller delays), home values have been soaring on Long Island with the small inventory and people fleeing city life. There's a jump in the NW number around close time. Reason is that the way I've chosen to calculate NW with a mortgage is Zestimate of the home minus the mortgage amount (aka the equity I have in the house as valued by Zillow - this is how Personal Capital automatically does it). Zestimate is already 30k+ from the sale price so hence the jump in NW).

01/1/20 - $176k
02/1/20 - $197k (bonus hit the account)
03/1/20 - $201k
04/1/20 - $195k
05/1/20 - $215k
06/1/20 - $237k
07/1/20 - $286k (received a generous gift towards new home - $40k)
08/1/20 - $297k
09/1/20 - $345k (home value jumped on Zillow)

My last check-in was when I was a member of the Race to 250k thread in 2018.  Since then I've gotten married, sold 2 houses, bought another and had a kid.  I am at the same job and have received little promotions and solid raises along the way.  I finish my MBA (paid for by work) in October and will have my second kid in November.  I would like to hit the $450k mark this month.

02/28/18 $110,864.47
09/01/2020 $444,020.69  - 300.51% increase (+$333,156.22)

Nope. I work PT now...5 on, 9 off. I do take advantage of extra work opportunities as they come along if they meet certain criteria, but even so, the vagaries of the market overwhelm my investment contributions.

I am the tortoise.

I believe the tortoise beat the hare in the race. You're doing fantastic.

Oh yeah, I know. Being the tortoise is a positive thing.

But now that I think about it...
What do you think was going through the tortoise's mind during the race when it was just plooooddding along, one step at a time, step after step, month after month, year after year? Especially if the hare was way ahead at some point, driving a fancy car, living in a nice house, vacationing in the Mediterranean. I wonder if the tortoise knew it was destined to win the race?

@achvfi @SpareChange You are both getting close to the home stretch...any prediction for graduation?

Hi @oneday, It can by EOY if market helps a little, if it doesn't its likely in first quarter next year. Goal in next 3 years is to lay down a solid foundation for finances to pursue some of our dreams.

I was on vacation, so September's is a week late. New appraisal for a refinance bumped my house value a bit, but the refinance hasn't happened yet so I'll take a hit when that happens. Overall going the right direction though!

The remarkable thing about these numbers is that I withdrew $13,000 in cash to do a secured loan at 7% interest, so I should be actually at $325,000 for September 1 (the next 9 days not so much).

I've also put two offers out on investment properties-one ghosted me and the other is still pending.  Trying to get some cash diversified from the market before November, especially with a "average inflation targeting" the new standard for the Money Printers.

The days are long, the years are short, and six months into a world without wait staff, bars, or grocery aisles is weird.

Household net for 2 adults:

05/2020: 203K
06/2020: 225K
07/2020: 236k
08/2020: 252k
09/2020: 264k
10/2020: 262k

Bit of a slide, but could have been worse. I didn’t work at all this month due to surgery so considering the markets are a bit sluggish and I didn’t earn any at side hustle PLUS lots of medical expenses... I’ll take it
