Down about $40k from market activity, buckle your seatbelt and keep arms and legs inside for the duration of the rollercoaster ride!!

Seriously though, I did rebalance my portfolio because the equity drop triggered my tolerance band on asset allocation, looked to refi mortgages (not low enough to make sense, but I will keep watching rates), and exercised a small amount of tax loss harvesting inside our taxable account to make a quick buck.

Knew I wasn't ready to leave you folks. Markets this week slowing down the progress. This has been the first time I've ever sold bonds to re-balance though. Overpaid income taxes this year and expecting a few thousand bucks return to re-graduate me again, probably by next month. Good luck to you all during this bit of stock market turmoil and let's cross our fingers jobs don't start getting affected.

Investments only.

The market drop hurt.  I may have to push back target Graduation a few months, but I'm not going to do anything rash like that until a few more months of results.

Ouch, added $12,818 this month and am still down $12,513 for a total loss of $25,331.

I do enjoy that it feels like stock sales and I can get kind of excited about that instead of worrying.

Paid off a car and listed it for sale - $19.9k.  I'm still not sure how to factor my solar array into this...probably should take the hit by listing it as debt.  I am refinancing my house now so if it appraises for any more, I can offset solar with the increased house value.  If I don't do that my NW dips below $300k which feels wrong because it's offset by property...

Market drop causing quite the course correction.  Looking worse in the week or so since.  Still up big time over the last year, though.

Moved 5% of my 401k as well as switch all future contributions from cash to growth fund.   Also placed 10% of my IRA on limited buy.   Let's see if VTI will trigger the buy today.

You and me both, lol.  I am hoping that it'll stay down for a while so my contributions buy in cheap and in the long run I end up better off :)

Ended up day trading the VTI bought yesterday and made almost 10% on it.  Guess I'm not ready for buy and hold yet.  Let see if I'll have the opportunity to buy low again.

I made 9.1% on our VTI today without any day trading at all.

Probably applies for most people who have joined in the past few quarters. I'm currently below 250 i'm sure, but contributing aggressively to 401k which ought to help as we will inevitably see a rebound. we have about 4k in travel expenses that we hope will get refunded and those should be a nice bonus too.

Urgh! Now I have to cancel my limit buy for 10% down.  Really losing faith in this country.

My wife would probably divorce me (I kid! I kid! mostly!) if I suggested throwing more into index funds right now, BUT to her credit, she is staying calm during all of this, which is great. I am trying to stay calm too. And we're continuing to make her normal contributions to her 401k, so we're just sticking with the status quo, not doing anything drastic either way.

I guess I'll still do the net worth check come month's end, but I realize that focusing on that short-term number, while fun for this challenge, is not the end-all-be-all.

Hi!

New to the forum but would like to join this topic. About me; mom of two, somewhere between 40 and 50 yo, married to mr B, new to the FIRE concept (unfortunately but better late than never). Stated NW is just for me since we keep financials partly separate and partly combined (mr B is not fully on board yet).

Feb 2020: 256,102.42

I'm wondering if I can stay in this threat but we'll see at the end of the month...

Thanks! We are hiding inside for sure. I’m just a few blocks from Elmhurst Hospital which is not the best place to be right now at all. Just happy to still have our jobs and be able to work from home. They finally shut down most construction and I will be able to stay inside for the next few weeks aside from needing to re-supply when we start to run out of food. Think we will venture out this week once to grab some more frozen food and other easy to cook items to get us through the worst of it.

Ouch. I watched the 2008 crisis unfold but had just graduated college and had no money invested at that point. This feels different, but is also my first real opportunity for investing in a bear market.

Decided to fund a Roth IRA with recent downturn, and am almost at the max (although now the deadline is extended to the new tax deadline, so we'll likely try to fund a second Roth IRA in that time). Rebalancing when the portfolio hits a tolerance band. Adding a bit of home equity into NW calculation - it was appraised for a refi. Still sitting on a pile of cash for a real estate investment...but maybe it will end up in the market instead??

My net worth:

2020
January: 256,102.42
February: 300,208.75
March: 301,773.44

I get to stay in this threat! My pension funds didn't go as much down as I was fearing, lucky me! Although they may be behind with processing actual numbers so we'll see next month how it plays out.

First number is retirement savings, second is total NW including cash emergency savings and real estate equity.

September 2019: $261,238 (total NW $387,863)
October 2019: $260,934 (total NW $381,797)
November 2019: $280,569 (total NW $405,660)
December 2019: $292,062 (total NW $423, 991)
January 2020: $299,351 (total NW $430,390)
February 2020: $281,810 (total NW $412,616) ouch!
March 2020: $249,818 (total NW $390,340) double ouch!

I know this is $182 below the $250k min for this group but hope you will all let me stay through next month to see if this turns around a bit.

Second month down, I'm sticking to my IPS and investing every week. Taking it in stride that I have enough saved that my contributions can't keep up with market swings anymore.

Total investments is down $30,666 even after stuffing an extra $12,963 in there this month.

Personally the sale is good for me with a decently stable job (knock on wood) and a distant horizon for investing. I feel for those suffering with this right now and hope it all works out in the end.

Only tracking personal liquid stash and do not include my wife's savings or any Real Estate equity at this point

This is awesome, I hope the market stays depressed for a while so I can stockpile for now, I put in around 7k this month.  This is probably the best thing for most people around this stage in saving, most likely we all have a few years left to go and by the time we are ready to pull the plug the market should be on the way up and keep our plans pretty safe.  Another positive, it is really easy to save when there is nothing going on.  I'll be staying here a little while, glad I didn't move up a thread when I could, around mid-February when I saw myself reaching close to 525k I thought I'd be on my way up, but that was a big nope.

Not as bad as I thought it would be. I didn't look at my accounts during the lowest part.

Invested: $270922 (+~7k)
Total net worth: $495000

Ended month on a down day but that's just a blip on the chart soon.

Pleased to have stayed in this thread with $260287 liquid. I had already decided to start maximizing my 401k early so that came in handy. excited to see what will happen when the market starts recovering.
Well, dropped below the lower end of this thread for now: $238521 liquid and about $450k total net worth following a drop in home value as well.

Just gotta keep plugging along.

Nov-19 $3750000 - INV
Dec-19 $391000 - INV ---> Very pleased with $162000 increase in investments and cash this year. Thank you downturn in 2018. Lets keep this up people.
                                        Happy new year, new decade!
Feb-20 $377000 - INV ---> I was looking forward to market opportunity and here it is. Welcome back Volatility! I am buying.
Mar-20 $320000 - INV ---> I have been buying. Hoping this sale continues for a while. Maxed out IRAs and investing in taxable now. Trying to refinance
mortgage to free up some cash-flow. For anyone in this race this is the time to double down.

Down $16,079 to $370,372. First time needing to sell bonds to rebalance. New contributions just weren't enough in March lol.

This is our net worth, so home equity, cash holdings, and bonds mitigated our investment losses.

Until there's a vaccine, and that's at least a year to 1.5 years out, it's going to be a bumpy ride. We aren't "doubling down," but we are continuing to invest weekly into my wife's 401k. Holding course.
