I called to downgrade my account before the first anniversary and got a prorated refund of the $450.  It actually seems slightly more generous, as they prorated it back to the end of last month by my calculations, so I didn't get charged for October membership even though I had it more than half the month.

I cancelled today with one month remaining before first anniversary.  The rep didn't say anything about a refund.  Did you have to ask for that?

I product changed my Preferred to Freedom Unlimited and they didn't mention a fee refund either, but a prorated refund appeared in my account shortly thereafter.

Bingo. I didn't ask but my online account is the same, they just changed it to the chase freedom.  It has a positive balance on it from the refund.

Ah, OK.  I did a straight cancel on the CSR because I already have a CSP.  I got the bonus (50,000 points) when I signed up for that so I guess I'm doing OK.

Will purchases of $300 Southwest Gift Cards count as travel spending for the annual $300 reimbursement?

If so, that is the last purchase I'll be making on my CSR after the December statement closes before cancelling the card.

It should if you buy it from Southwest.  It won't work if you buy from grocery store, etc.

ANyone gonna wait until their annual travel reimbursement renews in December and then see if the prorated refund is more than $150?

I bought Southwest gift cards directly from Southwest and that counted.  As I recall, it takes a few days before it shows up as a credit, so don't wait until the last day.

We've got 2x Chase Reserves and an Ink Business Preferred between DH and I.

Will I be able to consolidate the Rewards points from all (3) cards onto (1) Chase Reserve? I unsure if it is good timing to use up all the bonus points accumulated (~300k once the last bonus hits). I'm wondering if I should bite the bullet and pay the $450 annual fee to carry over the points and 1.5x adder through Mar 2019.

Not sure if you can more UR points from Ink to another card ('cuase I don't have a business) although I think "yes".  You can move CSR to your spouse and other UR earning cards.  You could also transfer them to a partner airline before you close the account.

But then they won't be worth 1.5x when redeemed for travel, correct? For example, with the Chase Freedom cards they would only redeem at 1.0x.

The redemption benefit corresponds to the card that is used to redeem points. If you have a CSR, you'll want to transfer points from all other UR cards to the CSR to get the 1.5x benefit.

Well, I canceled.  Jerks told me the annual fee would be refunded, so I paid my balance minus 450, got hit with an interest charge.  Kinda dumb on my part but I didn't want to hassle with asking them to send me a check once the refund posted.  They refused to reverse the interest and told me it could take a couple billing cycles to get the refund... just a heads up.

I'm still curious if I could have waited until 2018, used the travel credit, then gotten a prorated refund and come out ahead -- someone try this and let me know!

Just got the Amex Platinum with 100k signup bonus, so I gotta $5k spend.  Compared to the CSR, the points aren't worth as much - maybe $1k in travel or crappy gift cards, but only $600-$700 in cash/amazon.

The $200 airline fee credit (I believe this can be doubled up 2017/2018) is only for a small set of airlines, and it's just fees like baggage so... uh yeah.  Maybe I done messed up.  You have to choose a specific airline in advance, once per year, unlike the CSR which automatically applies to all travel.

The $15/mo UBER credit looks like a nice perk since I can use it on UberEats for perhaps one "free" entree per month.

Right now there's a promotion on your cable bill - 10% off.  Works for me.

Lounge perks look better - Priority Pass plus some other lounges.

Lots of other little benefits that I probably won't use - hotel status, free wifi hotspot, free shoprunner 2-day shipping (actually I might use this around the holidays and with baby stuff)

Global entry will be nice because I already signed up using the CSR, wife used her CSR, and now we gotta get one for baby (first world problems)

5x points on travel, but crappy points on everything else

No international fees, but I'm not sure anyone takes amex in the places I go.

I'm finally at only 2/24!! I'll be applying to CSR and CSP in the same day since they made the rule where you can't get both. Rent is 1k so that will cover at least 3k of the requirement so spending 8k shouldn't be too bad...

My boyfriend's CSR annual fee hits in January I think. Can we book a flight to use the rest of his points then downgrade the card before the flight?

I don't see why that would be a problem; the flight is bought and paid for at that point.

Yeah, I would already have the tickets. I think we're going to look into pooling the points into my CSR once I get it. You can transfer points between household members. Technically he's only at my place 50% of the time, and he would need to officially change his address with Chase I guess, but none of that's against their terms.

If you can't get both bonuses, does applying for them in the same day circumvent that rule? First time I've heard of this exception, but interesting if true.

Does your landlord/property manager accept CC payment?

Yep, there are numerous people who have gotten both cards by applying in the same day. Usually by applying for one in the morning, calling recon if not immediately approved, then applying for the second in the afternoon and calling recon again if needed. Only on days recon is open of course, it's not 24/7. Some don't call recon and still get both. It's not 100% for sure guaranteed, but I won't complain too much about only getting one.

My apartment takes credit cards as payment with no fees! I have a roommate but he agreed that I can pay the full rent with him reimbursing me.

Does it matter in which order you apply?

First apply for the one you want the most in case you get denied for the second app.

People have had success with CSP first or CSR first. I don't know if a specific order is better or not. Some were auto-approved for both cards, some had to call recon for both.

Some recent success stories here:

Just got approved for the CSR with a $17k limit! I was having issues temporarily lifting my Equifax report, so I had to call recon with Chase after I finally figured out I can call Equifax customer service. The online and automated phone systems wouldn't work, and I didn't want to wait to mail in the information. When I called recon, they pulled Equifax again and approved me.

Will report back if I get approved for CSP, I'll be applying later in the day.

I got really impatient and applied for CSP and was auto-approved!! Now I have CSR and CSP. I'm planning on going to NZ in a few months so I may try to spend the $8k a little faster than 3 months. I know it's not the best redemption for the points, but I don't think I can plan trips a year in advance right now...

I already had a Chase Freedom with <$10k limit. I know some people have had to reduce their credit limits when calling recon if they have multiple Chase cards with high limits.

I just got approved for this card yesterday (CSR), showing up in the mail today.

My question: The branch said the $300 travel credit renews on a calendar basis, yet an earlier post here from the last few days says it's tied to the card anniversary now for new cardholders.

I was hoping I'd get the $300 credit twice, buying southwest gift cards to keep the first $300 before Dec 31st. Can someone confirm this?

Your branch gave you out of date info.  The calendar year changed to anniversary ~May 2017.  That loophole is gone.  If you look at the fine print that came with the card you can confirm.

"Annual means the year beginning with your account open date through the first statement date after your account open date anniversary, and the 12 monthly billing cycles after that each year."

Found it.

There are threads on flyertalk to verify, but for many of the airlines you can use the credit to purchase gift cards.  In some cases it has to be in certain amounts - i.e. I purchase two $100 gift cards from AA on separate dates, and they code for the reimbursement.

I suspect that it will not.  Will likely show as a "miscellaneous government fee" or similar.

Rookie CC points guy here.

Back in mid-Sept 2017 I got the Southwest Plus card for the 60,000 bonus point offer at the time.  When I applied, I was oblivious to availability of the Companion Pass.  Then I read about it (too late) in this thread.  D'oh!...as with many things, bad timing on my part, because obviously I would have preferred to wait until Oct 2017 to get the card, then be eligible for the CP around Jan 2018 in conjunction with the SW Business card I got in Oct 2017 that also offers 60.000 pts.

Around mid-Dec 2017 I completed my $2,000 spending for the SW Plus card.  On Jan 4, 2018 I noticed I had not received any bonus points, so I called the bank and was told the points should show up upon their next reporting cycle to Southwest, which the agent said is Jan 08, 2018.

Up until that phone call, I figured the Companion Pass for 2018+2019 was not possible in my case since bonus points from each card would be attributed to different calendar years.

My question is:  Is award of the CP based on the year when the spending requirement is met, or when the bonus points are awarded?  If they do indeed give me the bonus points Jan 8th, and I complete the spending required for my other SW card in a few days as well, I should have 120,000pts technically all awarded in Jan/Feb 2018 time frame.

I think you are in the wrong thread (there’s a southwest one), but the CP is based on when points are awarded, and actually hit your SW account

I think you are in the wrong thread (there’s a southwest one), but the CP is based on when points are awarded, and actually hit your SW account
This is the thread I first learned about the Companion Pass (sporadic discussion throughout).  Will try to find the Southwest thread as well.

Thanks for the promising info.  I'll believe it when I see it, but looks like I still have a shot at the CP.

I'm sure this may have been answered in this thread...but not sure i feel like looking for it..

Will a condo rental through VRBO.com be coded as "travel" so i get that $300 travel credit? Does anybody have any experience with VRBO and the travel credit?
