2017 travel credit showing for me too.  I'm on the fence about keeping the card though.

By the time the annual fee rolls around, Chase will probably roll out some new cards with sweet incentives.

What's the latest thinking on whether you can be approved while having had 5 cards opened in the past 24 months?  Right now I have 6/24 but in mid-May will be down to 5.  Will that be enough or do I need to wait until it's down to 4/24?

Applied and was rejected about a month ago, before I figured out I had 6/24.  Assuming not worth it to apply again before May?

Or apply in branch.  I am way over 5/24, applied in branch, and was approved.

Thanks to both of you.  Bummer.  Re branch approval - had you already applied online and been rejected when you went into the branch, or not?  Wondering if having applied (and been rejected) a few months ago will make this a deal breaker for me.

I had gone into the local Chase branch because I was opening a Chase checking and savings account to take advantage of a $500 bonus coupon they had sent me in the mail some time back.  When I opened the checking and savings account in branch, the banker said that I was preapproved for a whole list of cards, including the CSR.  I told her I had a pending app that was probably going to be declined, so she said to wait for the decline and then come back in.  I got the CSR decline a week or so later, then went back in, and she applied for it for me at that point and it was an instant approval.

I also applied in branch for an Ink Plus Business Preferred card, which I am assuming was denied because it has been over a month and I haven't heard a peep from them on that card.

So, chronology:

1.  months ago - received Chase coupon for $500 for opening checking and savings
2.  11/4 - applied online for CSR
3.  11/8 - Opened checking and savings in branch with coupon
4.  11/15ish - Received decline for CSR online app
5.  11/18ish - Applied in branch for CSR (instant approval)
6.  11/21ish - Card arrived like 2 days later

My opinion is I don't think your getting rejected earlier is a problem - I was too.  I don't think the timing of your rejection is a problem either.  I don't know how much me opening the other accounts matters to my success (the savings deal required a deposit of $15K, which could mean more willingness to approve me for their card products).

I opened this in late November.  My first statement just closed on 12/25.

When i look at my bonus dashboard, it says "$300 Travel Credit" and below it is says "$0 received"

So what does this mean with regards to me buying a gift card from Southwest Airlines for $300 today and being reimbursed?

It means you'll be reimbursed.  My *guess* is that it would count as a 2017 year travel credit based on my experience (I got my 2017 credit already by making my gift card purchase after my December statement closing date.)

I used Delta airlines but I'd bet Southwest Airlines GCs would work fine as well.

It means you missed out on the credit for 2016. You can still get it for 2017 though.

Were you pre-qualified for the card when you went to the branch? I've heard that if you're pre-qualified, 5/24 doesn't apply.  I checked at my local branch and I am not.

I believe I was.  The banker used phrasing similar to that when she was letting me know about the cards I could get.

This is good to know. I'm going to the branch anyway this week for the $500 checking/savings new account bonus they keep sending, and will try to open the cc in branch (denied online due to 5/24).

I reimburses global entry.

You should get global entry since it includes TSA pre-check. Much better for about $20 more (which Chase pays anyway).

I submitted my Global Entry.  Total cost was $100

Only reason I can think of for getting TSA Precheck is if you can't find a convenient place to get Global Entry interview done.

Or a convenient time.  We did Global Entry but the earliest interview time was June 2017.

I am just adding this as a data point to let others know that the great customer service continues even in the case of credit card fraud.  I recently used points for a few days vacation down in Mexico and my credit card number was stolen within hours of getting to the hotel (I strongly suspect hotel staff since that was the only place I used the card, and yes, I reported it to the hotel).  Chase sent me a text the next day asking if a certain charge was fraud or not.  I called them and found out that actually two unauthorized charges were made to an online mexican website.  The Chase rep was very easy to deal with.  They cancelled the card and they sent a new one to my house that arrived within two days.  FAST service.  It even arrived hours earlier that the UPS text notification said to expect it.  The new card number shows now for my online account with all my old charge data and the auto pay seems to be still set up fine even though Chase sent an email saying I needed to redo that.  I have been really happy with customer service.  Since I was in Mexico at the time, I used the international calling number on the back of the card and it went through easy to a rep.  I didn't have to dial any country code or anything like that.  Thanks Chase!

Applied for and received Global Entry in 11 business days.  The nearest interview location had almost immediate appointment times available so that helped.  I randomly looked at a few other locations and some of them were six weeks or more.

Total cost to me was about an hour of my time and eight or so miles on my car.  Hopefully I can make that up down the road by skipping some lines.

I have.  My statement ended mid-December and I bought a plane ticket a day or two later, so my 2017 credit came a couple of weeks ago.  I got the 2016 credit back in September.

I have read that Chase will refund annual fees if you close or downgrade the account within 60? days.

I have my 105K points now and am hanging onto them for future travel.  But I have thought about trying to get all of the benefits - I got the two $300 travel credits, the airport lounge card, and the Global Entry rebate, cash out the points, and close the card within 60 days and ask for a refund.  The $450 AF refund would almost offset the 50% travel bonus.

I'm not cheeky enough to do it personally, but I throw it out there as an idea.

The 100k bonus is going away on the 11th, and I'm stuck at 5/24 until April (stupid Amtrak card). But I might as well give it a shot before the big bonus disappears. I've been a loyal CS Preferred customer for several years now, and I wonder whether that might work in my favor if I'm denied and ask for reconsideration. Any data points on that scenario?

Thanks for the warning!
I'd already done it (and "double-dipped" the travel credit) for myself, but the impending end of the bonus spurred us to get my wife approved as well.  :^)

The only really good way around it appears to be in-branch.

I'm a few hours drive from the nearest local branch.  I'm currently being declined because I'm over the new account limit.

I'm going to call the local branch and see if I can hopefully get accepted.  Has anyone had success calling?

I definitely abused the system and they can see that I'm sure.  I signed up for 3 chase cards and split the cost of my new roof over all 3 and got the rewards bonuses on them all.  So, I don't really have a right to be too sour if I get declined =P

My score is 800+ if that is a deciding factor in them being lenient at all.

EDIT:  Call failed lol

So I've seen this thread over the last several months, but it's become a bit cumbersome to try to read through.

Wife and I are considering applying for it, but I wanted to know if someone could post a quick pro/con list of it? Or at least, things we should be aware of (do we need to cancel to avoid the annual fee? cost extra for additional card for both of us? points must be used by a certain time period? anything else?).

I missed out on the Southwest one many years ago which seemed like free money. I don't want to do that again.

With a $450 annual fee that is not waived in the first year is this card even worth it now that the bonus will be 50000 points instead?

On the negative side - $450 annual fee from the first year, and $75 for an authorized user.

On the plus side - 50,000 UR points is worth a minimum of $500, plus the annual $300 travel credit. Then there's the reimbursement for global entry, free prioity pass for some airport lounge access, pretty good travel insurance, and the ability to use the UR points for multiple airlines and hotels or use the points with Chase's travel agency at 1.5x.

Your decision.

Apparently in branch applications (even if you aren't a banking customer) will have the 100K bonus until March 15.  One work around I've heard of is to apply and get (probably) get denied.  Then call the reconsideration line in a few weeks when you are under 5/24.  Apparently you have 30 days to call the reconsideration line.

Yes, I realize there are a lot of "apparentlys", and "heard" and "probablys" in that short paragraph.  But worth a try.  Or go to Flyer Talk forums and see what their collective advice is.

Do you have to keep the card open in order to retain your points? I know the travel credit would be gone, but I'm curious about just the points. There's a statement on the terms and conditions that makes me think they become forfeit.

And when is the $475 fee assessed? If I cancel after meeting the $4k spend, I'm just wondering of what the repercussions are. Or really, the best way to take the biggest advantage of this.

I'm reading through the thread looking for these answers, but as I said, this thing is gigantic.

The $450 annual fee is charged first thing - no getting around that.  $75 for authorized user is only needed if the other person actually needs a card.

You can transfer the points out (United, Hyatt, Southwest, whatever - there are plenty) before cancelling the card.  You lose flexibility, but you keep the points as long as you follow the rules where you moved them.

Does anyone know exactly how 5/24 is calculated? I'm not sure if I go down to 4/24 in March or April, which is kinda important now with the deadline being March 12th for in-branch applications.

If you have a Chase slate, you can get an idea by looking at the credit score breakdown and then at inquiries.  It will give you an idea because inquiries do not equal accounts.

I was over 5/24 by one additional account.  This leads me to believe it is not just CC accounts but any account.  ie PLOC, HELOC, auto, etc.  I cannot confirm this is true but it makes sense.

Quick question on the Priority Pass.  It says on the Chase paperwork that you get a priority pass select.  Well when I go to the PP site, it gives me to options of standard, standard plus, and prestige.  I am assuming the standard one is correct, but want to double check...

I am pretty sure that you could earn the bonus on the Sapphire Reserve, open up a new - no-fee - Chase card, and then cancel the Reserve. You'd still have an account with Chase, so the points would still be sitting there. This might mean that you would lose the 1.5x bonus, though? Maybe someone with more knowledge can weigh in.

Yes, you can transfer the UR points to a fee free Chase card (like the Freedom) BEFORE you cancel the Reserve, but then you can't transfer to partners (airlines, hotels) from Freedom, and you lose the 1.5x for travel.

You could try for a Chase Sapphire Preferred, subject to the 5/24 rule, currently with 50k UR bonus points, and the annual fee is waived the first year.  Transfer partners are the same as the Reserve, but you only get 1.25x for travel and no $300 travel credit. Still, no fee the first year, and no fee for an AU.

It should just be credit cards. I used Credit Karma to sort credit cards by date opened, and I'm sitting exactly at 5/24 with a Target RED Card included as of March 10th. I'm finding mixed information whether or not store cards actually count, so I may be talking to the reconsideration folks to persuade them to let me through.

This is how I understand it:  If you are currently at 5/24 and the oldest of your 5 card was approved anywhere between March 1 - 30 2015  then you would be under 5/24 on April 1st.  If you card wasn't approved until April 1 then you'd have to wait until May 1st.

You get the PP thru Chase's site, not the PP pass site.  You have to sign up on Chase to get it though and it takes a couple weeks.

Or transfer to another Chase card.

As an existing card member, should I be at all concerned that the sign up bonus is changing?  I would like to keep the 150,000 points on standby for future travel but I wouldn't feel too bad about taking the $1000 cash and running.

Wow, a phone plan for fifteen bucks!
