The timing of this thread is great, we are going through a massive clean up this weekend. Huge. The urge struck us and we have been going nuts, something snapped I guess and we are ready to get rid of a bunch of stuff. I even went back to old boxes from my youth and threw out half a dozen old trophies from things I won in elementary school and some old arts and crafts. It occurred to me that one day my children will need to go through all of my stuff and it is ridiculous that I am hanging on to this old crap so out it went. They are meaningless and the fact the last time I thought of them is when they went into that box is a real sign of what their fate should be. Move on already.
We live on a high bluff and we just threw it all into the crevasse.
Most interesting is that we removed the drawers from a massive, built-in dresser and found things from the prior owner that had fallen down behind the drawers, all the way in the back. The home was built in 1955 and only had one owner before we bought the place in 2003. There were 3 silk scarves from high-end couture and a hand made silk belt, clearly pretty old, I would guess about 60 years old. I measured it and it was a 26.5" waist, incredibly small. When my daughter was in 5th grade I don't think it would have fit her and she is completely normal proportion and average weight at age 24 now. People have just become much, much larger in the last century since the prior owner was born in 1909 or so.
It has been a really feel-good weekend.
