Wondering what you MM's use all the CC points for? I'm in the market for a new camera for my travels, and I'm thinking Chase points to Ebay Gift cards, and getting a sony A6300/6500 systems. Save the rest for trips. How do you guys.gals use your points?

Just vacations. In the last 2 or 3 years... We went to maui for a week, Florida for a week, a cruise, a small army of weekends in vegas.

We are going to Tokyo on points tomorrow. Next year we are planning on doing Australia, Fiji, and New Zealand!

We're using the hotel points for a long road trip and the airline miles for a trip to Africa. I just converted my Flexperks points to $$ to cover my health insurance.

Hubby saves up his points for travel and airline miles.  We got half of our flights to Costa Rica with miles a few years ago, and now he's saving up for a trip to Scotland or Japan, he hasn't decided yet, lol.  I guess it depends on which will be most feasible with a toddler in a year or two.

I realize I don't have a specific use for mine - I have a combined ~$600 in rewards sitting on a few cards, and I don't know what to do with it.  I feel guilty using it for "things" for myself, because most of my hobbies are pretty low-expense so there's nothing I've been waiting to get.

OTOH, I just saw a program through CSU Extension for a Master Gardener certification, and it costs just about $650, so maybe I'll do that :)  I literally just this minute thought of that, so thanks for posting this question and getting me thinking!

I'm primarily in it for cashback.  Saving up a stash of UR and MR for no good reason though.

Please don't exchange your Chase UR for GCs.  Buy on eBay with your Chase CC, cash out an equivalent amount of UR, pay off the CC.  That way you still earn points on the transaction.  Or use a different card with category bonus (e.g. Chase Freedom is 5x at grocery this quarter) and buy the eBay GC there.
Use a shopping portal to get an extra 1% back.
Opt in to eBay's email spam to get included in their eBay Bucks offers.  Another 8-10% back in eBay store credit to use in the next calendar quarter.

We're using SPG points for a trip to Washington, DC with our kids (8 & 12) next February. Really psyched!

I try to only use my points for things I was going to buy anyway. It's not saving money if you spend it on things you wouldn't have otherwise bought (or use it to buy more expensive versions of things that you otherwise would have bought). Of course, I travel full-time, so it's pretty easy for me -- I just keep my eyes open to the possibility of using points on all my travel expenses and it happens with enough frequency.

That said... my parents always use their points as a way to pay for  others without the other person feeling awkward. If my mom wants to go on a trip with a friend/family member who can't really afford it, she'll just use points to buy flights/hotels and not let her friend pay anything. It's not "real money," So it's not awkward.

I sometimes steal that logic to use on my wife (who sometimes feels "guilty" for spending money on herself). "Of course you should go see your mom," I'll say "We have enough chase points to buy the flight."

Wow, a phone plan for fifteen bucks!
