Thought experiment - what if everyone were Mustachian?
« on: August 18, 2014, 02:01:45 PM »
Maybe this has been brought up before, but this was something I was just thinking about for fun today. What if all of society adopted Mustachianism? How would the world look? There would be a lot less crap being sold, fewer or different companies out there, and people working a lot less. I imagine there would be more parks, fewer Walmarts, and probably a much weaker economy with no one buying stuff? I think we would be monetarily less rich but society as a whole would have a better quality of life. What do you think?

I'd like to think that MMM is right. Instead of making all manner of disposable consumer goods, our economy would be more focused on solving actual human problems and creating a greater demand for a healthier world..

Yeah it's well worn ground give these a read and see what you come up with as for questions.

IMO there would be no way to determine exactly how it would look. You're talking a complete abandonment of the last 150 years worth of cultural/economic thought. But we're heading in that direction anyway with technological automation. Might as well throw this into the pile. :)

I missed a couple of those, but I'll check them out. I've been on this post-scarcity kick for a few months now, and my imagination is going crazy. I'll setup a topic eventually, but as I like to say:

"What an awesome time to be alive!!!"
