100 Burpee Challenge
« on: February 03, 2022, 08:03:48 AM »
How quickly can you do 100 burpees, the kind including a pushup? I spontaneously did this today and estimate 12 minutes based on the songs I listened through.  I've felt my workouts are lacking in high intensity and it felt great to get back into it.

I will actually time this in the future and attempt it once per week, minimum. My goal is under 9 minutes.

Burpees are a great measure of fitness, a low time commitment, and require zero equipment! Although underwear is recommended to keep your bits from flopping about.

Great challenge—good luck @LD_TAndK
I won’t be joining  (well I dont know if I could do 100 burpees anyhow) but I have a biceps injury that doesn’t allow me to do the push-up motion..even in yoga I cannot do any lowering of the body from plank.
But I think as a weekly item this would be an interesting measure..

Did that at a CrossFit class a couple weeks ago.  A hair over 11 minutes and was on the floor. Several guys there did it in 10 minutes.  I also enjoy the "Death By Burpees" workout.  Give that a whirl.  I think it would be a good way to improve your score on the 100 challenge.

Shit.  I should start on this Monday, even though the answer is going to be "hours" or "days" rather than "minutes"....

Tomorrow's effort is already allocated for gardening. Which in this region means "pickaxe and iron bar" for digging.

Wow just crushed it today @8:25. Guess I need to reset my goal, aiming for 7:30 now.

My strategy was sets of 10 every 50 seconds or so. That lasted for the fist 60 reps but then broke down into random sets of 3-6.

"Death by Burpees" sounds fun, I like how there's a warmup incorporated into the workout.

7:16 today! I guess setting goals magically makes me realize I wasn't giving maximum effort. Today was HARD though. My throat started reacting to the cold air and now I have a painfully sore throat.

New Goal is below 7 minutes.

Did 6:49 last week. Nearly threw up, good times!

My plan is now just to do periodic check ins as a fitness over time comparison tool

Great job!  Curious...how high do you execute your jumps?  I believe the standard is your feet have to at least leave the floor.  There is a trainer on you tube (Bobby Maximus) who did 100 burpees in (I believe) something like 5:46 and he does a 6" jump. Astounding

I haven't done this in years. Thanks for the inspiration to work it back into the rotation!

Burpees to a target help avoid “cheating”, where you have to jump and tap a target above your head to force full hip extension and the jump.

Burpees are just terrible. My goal these days is to just finish at a nice steady pace.

I go by my feet have to leave the floor, I also throw my arms all the way vertical. I doubt I'm getting more than a couple inches off the ground haha.

Dreary day today inspired me to go again, 7:54! New goal to get back under 7 minutes

You re-inspired me today. 8:02 but also someone rang the doorbell in the middle so that time doesn't include a two minute or so break...

It's amazing how much we lose the ability to move our bodies through space as we age and don't stay rigorously active.  I mean, how hard can it be to just lay down and stand back up, right?

I've been working on rebuilding my overall work capacity, fitness levels, athleticism, flexibility, etc.  Astonishing how much we deteriorate.  Things that look easy and fun(as remembered from our youth) become brutally challenging.

I haven't tried this challenge but I know burpees are really tough on my work capacity.  Makes it worse that I carry a lot of anaerobic muscle mass built from powerlifting.  I'm tempted to give it a go someday......

A full 100 wipes me out and makes me super sore for a few days, so I've been doing sets of 50 a couple times a week. I can squeeze it in under 4 minutes as a pre-lifting warmup

Post holiday kick my butt back in gear burpees, 50 reps in 3:17. Felt great.

New goal is to do one set per week, working my way back up to 100 in increments of 10

Just under seven minutes for me last night.  We did 100 burpees straight followed by a couple rounds of hard sparring last night in our Jiu-Jitsu competition class (to simulate the exhaustion you get at the end of a round in a tournament).  I'm pretty shot/rubbery after the burpees and beyond the physical aspect (borderline pukey), it's also quite hard to mentally concentrate afterwards.

Nice. You're inspiring me to get back under 7:00. Rubbery and pukey is a great way to describe the feeling.

I can't imagine sparring after, ya'll are tough

60 burpees in 4:06 today. Not as fast as I would have liked but in my defense I had just ran a 5k. Unexpectedly my pecs seem to be the thing weakening first and slowing me down overall.

Nice challenge, you got me motivated to give it a shot for first time.  Took me 10:40, I definitely slowed down after about 60!  I FELT like I was jumping 4" or 6" but I may be biased ha! Now we'll see if this causes new types of soreness in next few days
