Title: Two raises in two months (with same large company)!
Post by: ender on April 11, 2015, 04:40:02 PM
Our company has it's performance cost of living raises go effective in March. I actually got an above average raise (something like 3.7% woooo..) because I did awesome in 2014. Means I basically get about 1.5% raise for my actual performance once you include inflation.... but whatever.

Anyways, I am taking a new position soon as well which is a promotion. This also includes a raise of close to 10%.

Since this is within the same company it's hard to time things right to get both. Depending on timings you might not get one or the other will be reduced. I frankly got lucky in that my promotion came right after the annual raise. Either way it's effectively about a 13% raise and I'm pretty happy about it :-)

Those of you who work in large corporate conglomorations of bureacracy probably will appreciate the badassity of two raises in such close succession :D

That's some serious inflation. What are you basing your inflation figures on? The CPI for "all items" for the twelve months ending February 2015 (http://www.bls.gov/cpi/cpid1502.pdf) for "all urban consumers" was zero, and it was negative for the other CPI definitions in the linked document. Of course, the CPI may not reflect your actual personal inflation.

My positions pay range was increased.

Presumably that's mapped to something roughly resembling inflation.

This is a fantastic feat.  Great job!

I'm also at a conglomerate.  Supervisors can't even put requests in for promotions (job change included except in extraordinary circumstances) within 2.5 months of pay planning on either side, so 5 months out of the year.  If you don't get it mid May through mid December, it's not happening until the next year.

That's almost unheard of in corporate America. Congrats! I led a team of 110 people for a fortune 500 for seven years, and raises for my tip-top 1%'rs was about 3.5%. I had to work very hard to get those for my team. The average performers got 2% and the bottom 20% got nothing (ie, after inflation, a net pay cut). This was 2003-2010, and every year they would chip away at benefits too, reducing the packages in some way and raising the employee contributions every year.

In that kind of environment, to get a net 13% bump is pretty badass!
