Helmet Cam
« on: March 23, 2014, 07:55:05 PM »
Any recommendations on a helmet cam? My dad & I are doing a long tour this spring and I'd feel safer with a helmet cam-- at least if they take us out, there's the evidence so they'll be prosecuted.

The two popular ones around these parts are the GoPro and the Contour Roam. Both work well for cycling. They're priced about the same and the features are roughly equivalent. The Contour has a more streamlined appearance with the GoPro is more prominent. I prefer the more prominent camera since it is more noticeable and (anecdotally) a more effective deterrent.

The nice thing about the GoPro is that they are so popular that you can get tons of accessories for them, also a better chance of snagging a good used Go-Pro on craigslist or eBay for a nice discount.

That being said, i'm sure the contour has a bike and helmet mounts as well.

The new GoPro allows you to control it and review videos from your smart phone. I have an older one, which has been great to me over the years, but a recent ski trip, i saw the newer thinner lighter version and it was nice too, but did not make me want an upgrade.
