Leaky Garden hose
« on: July 21, 2020, 11:50:11 AM »
My garden hose has a big leak in one place and I don't want to buy a new one...  Is there any easy way to fix it? I don't want to buy another if it is fixable.

It's about 5 ft closer to the end where we attach to the water pipe. Is it advisable to cut off the pipe at the leak until this end and add the connector to this cut off end? If yes, how would I do this..

Help please.

Yeah, you can cut off the end with a hacksaw and put a replacement connector on it. Any hardware store will sell repair kits.

It's probably better to buy some leaky pipe repair tape - the silicone or rubber self-sealing type - and a metal clamp. Like so: https://www.amazon.com/3M-03625-Wrap-Repair-Silicone/dp/B00G25GOCA

If there's a single hole:
then cut the hose cleanly, perpendicular to the flow of water
Install each end of a barb fitting into each of the two hose pieces
Secure with hose clamps

If there's more than one hole, or the hose is damaged lengthwise, then the damaged section will need to be completely removed before installing the barb fitting.

You could probably piece together your own kit from stuff in the plumbing and/or hardware sections of a hardware store cheaper than the kit I linked.

Thanks bacchi and paper chaser!

We ended up doing what paper chaser suggested.. and we bought a kit in home depot - the last kit available and it happened to be available only because it was in the wrong section. Lot of leaky hoses in this city, I guess. Another good thing is that the kit also came with a end connector, that we could use on another hose for the front yard, which was missing that.

I'll look around for the silicone tape to keep one handy.
