Like NV Teacher, I was a barefoot enthusiast until I developed Plantar Fasciitis.  I actually developed it from RUNNING BAREFOOT ON THE BEACH.  Which just seems like cruel irony.  So now I'm stuck in Hoka One Ones.  However, my husband is a huge fan of being barefoot and wears only barefoot minimalist sandals (Bedrock) and his current pair has lasted 3 years of daily wear.  He cannot recommend them highly enough and in true mustachian fashion, bought a pair last year when they were on a really good sale, but refuses to open the new ones until the old ones fall apart.  Love that man.

This concept seems like it has fallen prey to the naturalistic fallacy.

I wear Telic flip-flops all the warm months of the year. My feet aren’t enclosed, but they still have support, and I’m not walking around on glass or rocks or hookworm.

I like the bedrock sandals, too.  Those are great multipurpose travel shoes, pack flat, waterproof, and you can hike in them if it's warm enough or just walk around town and they look fine with just about anything.  When not traveling, I am most often found in Birkenstocks, though.

Absolutely.  We do have shoes for a reason...and there are plenty that will protect and support you while still allowing your foot to spread out and be comfortable.

I wouldn't go for a run braless, either.  Even though it's "natural", I want the support.
