I find this discussion enlightening, if you pardon the pun.
I grew up in Melbourne, Lat 38 South, and daylight savings was standard. I loved it. Long summer evenings in warm weather, but it did mean my paper round in the morning started in the dark. Winter didn't matter, as it was dark then anyway.
Then as an adult I moved to Geraldton, Lat 28 South and on the western most part of a time zone. We had no daylight savings, and I missed it. Then the state government introduced a three year "trial" before a plebiscite. I hated it. With a passion. It was too hot and too windy to do anything in the evenings, and I lost my morning walk time before work. I voted no.
But when I spent time in Perth, Lat 32 south, daylight savings seemed not so bad.
I recently moved back to Melbourne, and while daylight savings isn't too bad, I could live without it.
Maybe it's my age, but the latitude also seems to affect my feelings towards DST. The further from the equator, the better it is. the closer to the equator the worse it is.
