AT&T Internet Promotion $30/mo for 12 months
« on: April 27, 2017, 09:44:52 AM »
I called AT&T a month ago, and the helpful AT&T rep told me she couldn't give me a better deal on internet at that time, but that if I called back in a few weeks, there would be a promotion.

I called back and got my internet down from $57/mo to $30/mo for 12 months, with a 12 month contract.  They also boosted my speed from 18mb/s to 25mb/s.  All it took was a phone call!

You're welcome!

Say, thanks. How does this work? Do you just call to ask for a better rate, or do you have an alternative option that you wave in front of them and ask if they can match it or do better? (The latter would involve more research on my part.)

Just call, say, "I need to lower my bill, and I heard there was a promotion on internet right now for $30/mo for 12 months for 25mb service."  And go from there.  They're usually pretty easy about just giving it over.

Better still, if you can get AT&T Uverse coverage, go with TOAST.net instead. Most people have diminishing returns on internet speeds above about 6-12Mbps, and it's always nice to deal with an ISP that only charges you what they say they will instead of using bait-and-switch pricing.

TOAST.net only requires a one-time 12 month contract, there's no equipment rental fees for the vDSL modem, taxes and fees are rolled in, and the price you pay on contract per month is the price you pay off contract per month. No haggling, no wasted time, and no monkey dance to lower the bill. Their support team is solid, too.
