I wonder what happened to BobW. Also the goblin chief (or was it king?)

FLA has been AWOL since August, IIRC, she was struggling with memory issues. Hoping for the best.

The goblin chief is still here, he even has a journal going :-)

If anyone does  have contact with ST, please tell her that her Face Punch Me thread is still going strong. Makes me smile and miss her more every time it updates.

Speaking of updates, there's a nice one from Eric222 today.

And then there's CheddarStacker.  I'm jonesing for a good LC story, or anything new, really.

I really miss Serpentstooth.  I can't imagine she would have done something that resulted in banning.

Not banned, last log in was May.

This thread fills me with warm fuzzies.

I wonder a lot about Lacking Ambition. Longtime blog and a really interesting guy, and then...tumbleweed. When Dr Doom announced he was FIREing, I actually emailed and asked him to at least post a yearly update so we'd all know how he was doing. It's funny how attached you can get to random internet strangers.

Wife of ForuMMM here. He's good; thanks to those who asked. He just decided he needed to think less about FIRE for his own well being.

Hey, whatever happened to Bakari? Last I remember, he was super active, went on hiatus, came back, then disappeared again.

...KulshanGirl.

I've been on and off myself over the last couple of years, and enjoying re-connecting with some of the folks I used to "hang around with" in here.  But have missed seeing KulshanGirl - last log in July 2015.  She was an awesome and supportive friend in the Gauntlets, especially with her "Fire Drills!"

I noticed Jack disappeared a few months ago, and Metric Mouse hasn't posted in a couple of weeks. Both are not searchable, nor had any apparent mod edits. weird how people just burn out and erase their profile and everything.

Huh, yeah, (s)he is no longer in the memberlist. Metric was pretty quiet and then really became active within the past year. I'd guess burnout too.

He joined a little over a year ago, when I did; except he posted 5 times as much as I did. I noticed for all his posting he never had a journal or talked much about himself except he retired at 23 or whatever. He has a kid and an SO, other than that no idea what he was like. occasionally i would creep on his posts but never saw where he posted more personal details.

I think people who focus a lot on the politics burnout real quick. Just accept this as a place to give and take personal finance advice and everything else is just some fun on the side. People allow themselves to get mad "at someone on the internet...." I noticed Ender has not been on in a while either and he even joked about how we shouldn't get mad someone on the internet; he kept posting that little cartoon picture/joke.

Metric Mouse was banned after numerous warnings regarding his political posts. At some point, we have to weigh contribution vs. damage done to the community when people are not able to moderate themselves.

Ahhhh, this makes a lot of sense. Yeah, some of his posts were pretty extreme. But probably more notably, extremely off topic for the threads they were in. I can absolutely see this being a reasonable decision, Swick. Thanks for letting us know what went down! I know it's not always easy for you guys to make calls like that.

I noticed quite a bit of trolling from him... he'd always post something very controversial as a somewhat innocent "please educate me" type question.

One may disagree with the rules governing it but The Ballot Box is the final arbiter to all political arguments.

How lucky we are to have it.

I printed off Serpentstooth's advice for baby carriers this week for a friend, and used one of her recipes.  I still miss her posts.  Dicey also mentioned her in another thread.  I hope she got her dream in Storybook Village, and that BabyTooth is eating up a storm.  @Distshore is the only member that I know had contact with ST IRL.  Since the '@' symbol now sends a batsignal to Distshore, if you read this and still talk with ST, please tell her she is missed.   Sometimes it's just nice to know you made a difference, and are remembered.

I find myself posting less and less, I wonder if most follow this curve to a degree. Started reading maybe 5 years ago now, posting starting 3 years ago(wow)

I learned a lot, contributed where I could, saw some really cool ways of breaking down work/fire/life but I really do feel like I know EVERYTHING(TM) now. So I have less interest in posting quite as much.

I know...
My number
How to get there
When I will be there
What I am going to do (or a few good ideas)
How to withdraw
Tax strategies

I think many probably follow this curve, and it did become (and still somewhat is) an obsession. Though now that I ACTUALLY have a good stache it all seems to just be working and there isn't much I can do about it.

Scrubby is back! Look for user name "Joon" . Talk about hiding in plain sight. So glad her hiatus was brief.

As to ST, she's really been on my mind. Just today it occurred to me to wonder if she somehow got banned. I know there were other members who knew her IRL. If you're one of them and reading this, please tell her she's deeply missed.

Alas, dagiffy1 did get banned, because he totally lost his temper politically. Makes me sad, but life goes on, I suppose. At least I have his email. He is alive and making steady progress on killing his ASL (Abominable Student Loan).

I wish all of them well.

On a happier note, bluecollarmusician posted an update after a long quiet, so hooray!

A member of my family was ecstatic that Trump won the Presidency. I listened to her celebration for a minute, then pointed out all the nasty things he's said and done, the endless contradictions, the name calling, and especially what he did to someone once that I read about in a news article about 25 years ago. I've loathed the guy ever since I read that article. Anyway, I told her we've won nothing, really. We just kept an utterly corrupt woman out of office. You are likely to be very disappointed in Trump 4 years from today. She didn't care: Hillary Clinton wasn't the next President, and that's all that mattered.

I loathe Barack Hussein Obama, Hillary Clinton, Harry Reid, Nancy Pelosi, Barbara Boxer, etc etc, too, because they are scum. Deceitful lying hypocrites who should be ashamed of how they've used their noble offices to enrich themselves and their families, while screwing over anyone who opposed them. This is also Donald Trump to a T. And so many GOP people, too.

So, no, I never lost my temper politically. That just an excuse a liberal douchebag used to ban someone who was saying something the leftists hate with a passion. If I had known this forum was so leftist, I'd have tried to put some more PC polish on it, but I thought Mustachians were more logical and reasonable and wouldn't respond in a bleeding hearted liberal rage. My mistake.

But I DO like to play the games that media leftists play and use their rules, it's just that I use their rules and their games in ways that arouse a bleeding hearted liberal pique. I use their favorite labels and approach not against their favorite targets, but against those whom the leftist media fawns upon. That kind of contrast shocks people who are drinking their koolaid, simply because that is just not how it's done.

The leftist media always needs to refer to skin pigment and/or recent ancestor land mass occupancy, so whenever I refer to the former president, I'll throw in his racial diversity: 1/8th black, 3/8th Arab, 1/2 White. That's right, Obama is 4 times as White as he is black. This is just stating the truth, but from what I've seen you can only point out racial detail in ways that benefit leftists or their causes.

For example, the hated George Zimmerman was a "white Mexican". If a GOP politician lies, he lies. If a Democrat politician lies, he "misspoke" or "misremembered". If a GOP politician changes stance on a political hot button for political expediency, he is said to have "flip flopped". If a Democrat does the same thing, the liberal is said to have "evolved".

Or I'll point out the lies, hypocrisy, and deceit of Obama, Clinton, Pelosi, or Harry Reid. Staggering that ANY Democrat can feel comfortable harshing on The Donald while having voted and/or supported for those criminals.

I guess doing this means I "totally lost my temper politically" or something. Not really. I'm just amazed at how many fools there are out there that actually believe and live this stuff, as if any of these people are admirable. Come ON. None of these people are your friends or worthy of your respect. Not Donald Trump and certainly not Barack Obama. But there are so many people who think they ARE wonderful and admirable. I'm surprised there's enough sand out there to bury everyone's head under.
You're doing it again...

Baking Powder AKA Dagiffy is long gone I think.  Despite being banned, his posts about living in his Volt were really interesting.  I'm not sure how many people would have been so committed to paying down debt to do that in their 50's.

Oh there is the bat signal! Serpentstooth is well and happy but pretty busy these days. I’ll tell her she is missed on the forums but I don’t know that she will come back.  Political clashes were a big thing for her.  Babytooth is doing well and is finally weaned. She backslides but nothing permanent.  She and my little one adore each other.

Thanks so much for the update @Distshore.  It's great to hear that everyone is doing well and happy.  I remember ST's very insightful political posts - she has been proven right so many times in the past year.  I understand she probably doesn't have time for the forum now - her life was so busy!  I just hoped she would know that someone missed her, and appreciated the time she took to share her thoughts and expertise.  Best wishes to the tooth family.

Aww, shucks. I was lurking for a long time but I'm back in the world of posting. This is a pretty good summary of why:
He posted about not getting as much out of the forums now, being on autopilot.  He's still around, but a lot less.

But I've got some big changes going on and that's got me reevaluating and back to learn some things I haven't had to deal with the last few years. A lot of the things that I was dissatisfied with on the forums have continued or worsened, but a lot of the good things are still there and there are some new good things too :)

Please let her know her "Facepunch Me" thread continues, despite actual face punches being far less freely distributed these days.

What about a sibling for Babytooth?

(Why do I feel like I'm playing with a Magic 8 Ball?)

@hoping2retire35 I post here and there still. Just a lot less as... well, I guess there are a lot of reasons at this point that I'm much less engaged here than I once was :-)

Dr. Doom - when he posted the forum trembled :)

Agreed - I'd really like to know how @Dr. Doom is doing.  I just re-read most of the livingafi blog again - for probably the fourth time.  Each time I re-read it I get something new out of it because I'm at a different place on the path.  Although I think one of the things that gets me excited about FIRE is that so many people I saw here and in various blogs have their online presence disappear after they finish work.  That tells me they have much better things to do that log on here or post to their blog.

I'd still really love to see a new livingafi post.

Not only that but also we're not killing time on company hours anymore.   Lol
As well, I wonder if some of our lives are just pleasant routines now and we don't feel they are noteworthy...

Well, it only took a few more years, but Dr. Doom did finally post an update and it was a doozy. How about you, @FIRE 20/20?

I'm curious what happened to FIRE_at_45 - he used to be pretty prolific, then one day just vanished.

Wow, thanks @Dicey . I just read it. I was surprised by how little emotional reaction I had to his going back to work. A few years ago I would have seen it as a massive failure - now it just seems like another chapter of his story.

We chat regularly, along with RC and Stasher. We got together a several times last summer and fall, and have plans for this summer as well. I'll ask him if he'd like to write something for me to post on his behalf in this thread.

Personally, I want to know what happened to Mr. Orange after he was kicked off the forum.  I half expected to read in the news about him going crazy and shooting up his corner of Austin.

I believe at least a couple of folks managed to piece together his real world identity -- apparently he wasn't particularly careful about what clues he dropped -- which was the only thing that kept me convinced it wasn't a parody/troll account. I wasn't one of them though, otherwise it'd be tempting to look and see what happened.
