What to do with $100k
« on: March 08, 2022, 08:46:44 AM »
So I've got $100k coming to me in a few weeks. I'm a ways from FIRE, but want to start getting ready. Any thoughts on what to do with it?

Primary is worth like $500k and paid off. Have about $425k in retirement savings between my wife and I. Have a few rentals with about $200k of debt on them. They bring in about $2500/month.

Buy another rental? Open a taxable brokerage account? Any other ideas? Seems those are the only two that make sense. Not sure I'm thrilled about putting money in the market right now.

What does your investment policy statement say? Either another rental or taxable brokerage account sound reasonable.

Not sure I'm thrilled about putting money in the market right now.

Change your 401k contributions to 100% - for both you and your wife. Live off the $100k for as long as it lasts.

After you max out your 401k's, max out Roth IRA's for both you and your spouse with that $100k for the next couple of years.

And as far as investing in the stock market right now, "Be greedy when others are fearful"!

And make it a game to stretch the $100k out as long as possible. Put all your 401k contributions into the stock market. With all that real estate, you never need another bond.

Put 10k into the market every week. Set it for a certain time and day each week and follow through no matter what.

*You should already be maxing your 401k, but if not, do that.
