The only way out is through,
@P1 You have to pay off the devices to get out of your contract, otherwise the IMEIs on the devices you bought will be flagged in the global mobile carrier databases, which will cause resale and activation issues elsewhere. The question is whether it's cheaper to stay in contract at this point versus paying the contract off early, and whether you have the money to do the buyout.
My old website is long gone, but
my old Wireless Plan ROI Calculator tool still works over at Archive.org. You need to find out what the payoff is for each device, find out what plan you need to switch to, and use the calculator to do the math. Might I suggest one of the GSMA plans over at RedPocket.
If your ex is your ex, they need to get off the shared plan and pay off their phone, or be left bag holding the remainder of their part of the account themselves once you're out. Be civil, and nice, and help them escape ship with you on this even if you're going separate ways. Also, you probably don't need mobile data on that iPad. Heck, ask yourself if you need the iPad at all once you're out from under the thumb of this, as it might be a way to recoup some of your losses.
Lastly, consider this an object lesson. It's always way more expensive to buy phones and tablets on installment plans with mobile carriers than it is to buy the outright all at once. If you can't afford to do that, you can't afford the device in the first place, and you need to set your sights on something you can afford, if you need it at all. Entry level Android smartphones from Nokia and Motorola are both reasonably priced and reasonably well built, if you must buy new, and for the lower "disposable" end of Android tablets, Walmart's Onn tablets are surprisingly well built and easy to gut the datamining stuff, even if Android isn't updated very often (so, don't do anything important on these things like banking)... and the only people who
need iOS devices are either the people who are locked into the Apple ecosystem, or are one of the few blind people in the world who need to use one of these abominable buttonless devices on a regular basis.
