What Republic Wireless phone are you using for the camera?
« on: December 21, 2017, 09:18:21 PM »
I have a first gen. moto x for the last few years, and although it's been a trooper I've recently started needing better quality pictures for social media than this phone seems to give. I thought about switching over to Consumer cellular to get an iphone  se for $179, but it bumps up the bill by $10/month or so. What are you using on Republic for a decent camera? Thanks!

Pixel or Pixel 2.

best phone camera(s) on the market.

I'd stay away from iPhones unless you want planned obsolescence.

I think my 2nd gen moto x is great. Btw I just got a notice that if I get a new phone I will no longer be eligible for the $10/month plan.

iPhones by far have the best cameras for the $$. iPhone SE with total is $99 IIRC. Sold our iPhone 5S for $80 and bought new SEs for $100 with Total.

I have their Huawei 5(whatever). Takes good photos. This is on their t mobile service and I don't find it to be any better than whatever carrier their old phones had.
I'd probably recommend switching carriers honestly. I still drop tons of calls and my phone does some rally weird stuff- subscriber not available, can't answer call too quickly or it freezes, and if I use speaker phone on wifi it echoes and everyone complains

Wouldn't it be cheaper to just buy a cheap phone/plan and buy a real camera for those occasions where you need want a super high level camera?

Even cheap phones today have cameras that were better than just about anything on the market a few years ago.

Libertarian has obviously not used the Moto cameras. Mine didn't have flash or auto focus. It was absolute garbage. Rivaled the $60 camera I bought in 2003

Cheap phones today take crappy pictures. When you can get a great camera and phone for $100 and pay $30-$35/month for cell including gobs of data, why bother buying a camera? In fact my iPhone SE in some cases takes better pics than my Nikon D5100.

I found the alternative is an expensive Android phone, $300+ used, $500 new, on a cheap cell plan. After amortizing the costs and accounting for depreciation the cost isn't much different.
