Hi everyone, great site. I've been reading this site and few other sites, and I think I've done pretty good so far.
I do feel that I lack a lot of info on taxes and financial decisions that impact on the long term, so I think I need to talk to someone who knows about taxes as priority and run some examples of what decision would be best. I live in NYC and I would like to know if I should look for financial planner locally or try to find a service over the internet, or just try to hunt for info on forums, but I think my situation is a bit too complicated for a simple forum post.

Perhaps if you detailed your situation you might get some ideas? There are more than a few qualified tax accountants on this forum.

Free advice is, at the end of the day, free advice, so yes you'll probably need to pay someone to go through it properly.

But no one can help if you don't give us any info.

Hi Marty,
I wasn't specifically looking for free advice, I wanted to know who I should look for in terms of hiring someone for a review/advice.

I don't mind explaining my situation here, but I think it's too complicated for a free advice since it will require going in depth, but I can definitely give some details. Is this forum section the right place for that?

I'd suggest :      https://forum.mrmoneymustache.com/case-studies/

https://forum.mrmoneymustache.com/case-studies/how-to-write-a-'case-study'-topic/

You don't have to give information beyond just the types of savings/investments and/or debt(with APR), rounded to the nearest 1000.

The advice may be free, but consider the charge-out-rate (customer charge) of the contributors (as working persons).
My former charge-out-rate was $200/hr, many on this forum could probably claim higher.
Even after considering the Dunning-Kruger effect.....  https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dunning%E2%80%93Kruger_effect , that still ? maybe?? sort of??? is somewhat better than most financial advisors.

and it is FREE!!!!!!

Disclosure: I rarely visit  /how-to-write-a-'case-study'-topic/.  I don't want to fill up my "Show new replies to your posts", too much.
I once asked the moderator @arebelspy how he managed his "Show new replies to your posts" and the remembered answer was "don't mostly"
Now he's got more "mentions" to deal with :-)    :-(

Edit for spelling.

Thank you Mike!
I will write my case but I think there needs to be tax review that is my biggest concern, I'll still add my questions there and see what we get.
I just think my current tax advisor who simply acts as my tax preparer is not giving me any advice or even offers to review with payment, so it's not that he doesn't want to make more money, I think he is just lazy or not as educated so he can't give advice. In my case I am preparing for a major life change (buying a house and moving 40 miles away into a different county that makes a big difference in my taxes) so I'm trying to figure out tax-wise what should I do with my current place. I will head over there in next few days once I gather all info so I can share it for some feedback.

Thanks again.
