What I love about my life.
« on: April 15, 2015, 09:18:17 AM »
I love to interact with people, to have conversations and to be part of a group. Job colleagues, friends and family all contributes to different kinds of exciting experiences.

I love my job even though it is no walk on roses, having to wake up early, having a boss dictating what to do, being exhausted at the end of the day and so forth. The alternative however does not make me happier! I tried living without a job during 2 years and all I ended up doing was watching marathons of Star Trek, become deeply bored and depressed.

I love to run my own little business on the side during evening and weekends and it is my wish to improve this enterprise. I am an entrepreneurial spirit, no doubt about that but it is more as a hobby.

I love to live a minimalist life, I strive to have as little stuff as possible. I like my possessions to add to the quality of life rather than to add quantity to my life. I am happier not owning big collections. As an example my entire wardrobe consists of 3 T-shirts, 2 Khaki pants, 1 belt, 7 pairs of underwear and socks, 1 sports coat, 1 dress shirt, 1 pair of dress pants and 1 tie(for the festive occasions), 1 pair of shoes, 1 spring/autumn coat, 1 winter coat and 1 winter knit cap.

I love traveling but it has to be for a longer period of time to make it worthwhile in my opinion. Of course one can do some sightseeing and have a taste of the local cuisine during a short trip but to truly experience the difference in culture and grasp how people are living and thinking differently compared to oneself. One has to stay for a considerable longer period of time. I always gain new insights about myself and my values during a trip abroad.

I love to become financially independent by accumulating enough wealth generating assets to live off the interest. I am currently investing roughly 50% of my salary each month and expect to reach the state of financial independence in 8 to 12 years between the age of 39 and 43.

I have no idea what to do with all the accumulated wealth, I got fantasies of running an Internet business while traveling but I am not sure if my fantasies and my personality that thrives in human company will clash. I imagine traveling to be quite solitary.

Travel can be solitary at times (might go a full day without speaking a single word to anybody) but most days you are meeting/spending time with fellow travelers/locals.  Some of my best travel experiences have been on solo trips.

Okay, I'll play!

I love saving money and getting a really good deal.

I love having lots of money left over from my income after I've paid all my monthly bills.

I love writing for my blog.

I love -- LOVE -- hiking.

More to come...

I love that I can choose what I want to do on any given day. Yesterday, as it was gloomy, sat on the couch for most of the day reading a couple of newspapers and watching tennis on TV. I have a huge couch and a very fleecy blanket - add my two dogs, and it's just a fantastic place to be when chilly outside.

Nice.

Ditto.  Yesterday I went to visit my elderly mom, brought her some food and chatted for a couple hours on all sorts of topics.  Also visited my brother who is mentally/physically disabled.  Dropped off some care package stuff (he's lost too much weight lately).  Consulted with my dad about extending a plumbing line in his back yard, then upgraded his cable box connection to HiDef so he can get a better picture out of his TV.  He'd been complaining his remote control is too complicated so I ordered a much simpler version for him, he loved it.  Spent some time online, this forum and some others, and researching/ordering a car part I think will get rid of a dashboard warning light that's been lingering.  Went out in the yard to work on a stone garden wall I started 4 years ago and never completed.  Made some progress on that.  Back online to help walk a guy thru fixing a car problem he was having.  In the evening had a nice dinner with my wife and listened to how her day went.  It's a beautiful day today as well, heading back out to the yard to work on that wall.

^+1 to that point I love being able to spend most evenings watching my kids participate in what they love doing as well, probaby more so. I just love not answering to anyone but myself and being there for my family without having to ask someone for the day off or permission.
