I'm gonna take a stab at answering your question.....maybe I'm right or wrong? But I suspect the racial makeup of Mustachians is 100% human. I leave room for the possibility I could be wrong though.

I'd be interested in seeing the racial demographics of US + Canada combined into one stat. I'm guessing the majority of posters are from one of the two countries, so we could compare the site racial diversity stat with that of the larger population.

These stats are from 2011 and both countries have become more diverse since then. It seems like Whites and Asians are over represented among Mustachians while Blacks are under represented.

Maybe it correlates better to say the demographics of the top 10% of income?

I think it may also have to do with your avatar (a woman) so people assume your female. I've only seen what I think is one guy use a female avatar here (Hawkeye has Gwen Steffani) although Hawkeye might be female faik. Also may have to do with the subject being discussed or things you do. I'm always getting called a guy here dispute my fluffy cute avatar because of certain things I've done - like being a ships mechanic or in the military. I've seen other women here who have non traditional jobs get tagged male too. Probably pretty common and why there is a perception of more men then women here.

On the internet, unless there is an indication to think otherwise, I assume everyone is a male in his teens/twenties.

No. Race is a social construct and I spend zero time thinking about it in my day-to-day. I choose not to answer the "race" question on job applications, surveys, etc. because it is irrelevant.

Anyway, I have spent the most of my teaching career working in urban economically-challenged majority Black communities in the United States and what I have experienced in my interactions with the communities is rampant materialism brought on by desperation for social status, fear of banks from negative experiences due to low information on personal finance, lack of cost-benefit analysis of primary and secondary education based on inability to recognize the financial advantages (i.e. school is for getting training for future work not just free daycare), and rampant corruption where a very small number of elite families control all the available government jobs (the only jobs that pay decent wages) and dish them out to relatives and prominent supporters. Pretty much what we see in many White communities, but dialed up to 11.

Any Black Mustachians from these communities want to weigh in on this?

Just thought I'd throw in that having lived for a few years on a native reservation in Canada, and having a lot of friends who still do, you've also described basically how things operate - especially if you replace "government jobs" with "band jobs". I've often noticed that there seem to be a lot of parallels between the two communities.

Also pretty well all of Canada east of the Honore-Beaugrand metro station. It's the scarcity mindset -- not enough to go around, and no belief that there'll ever be more, so the people who have something make sure it stays in the family.

Not my experience at all.  I grew up firmly middle class, both parents retired from General Motors in the steel belt.  Started working side jobs when I was about 11, walking dogs, mowing lawns, cleaning cars, etc.  Put every penny I made in the bank.  My parents were typical black parents at the time in the black suburbs and most worked for GM or a company that supplied parts to GM.  Joined the military to get them to pay for my college.  Got two master's degrees before I retired from the Air Force.

Now, my very "Caucasian" wife grew up dirt pool in a white trash trailer park neighborhood.  Her mother dropped out of high school at 15 when she got pregnant with her.  Very rough upbringing.  She has some real horror stories.  Both of her brothers are still living that lifestyle.  It encouraged my wife to move out of her parent's house when she was 16 and live on her own.  She put herself through college and earns more than I do as a software engineer.  She was very successful by the time I met her. 

So yea....there's that.
