What do you take your clothes to the laundromat in
« on: September 15, 2015, 11:45:39 AM »
I use a laundry bag. But it leaks water on the floor between the washing machine and the dryer. That's pretty embarrassing.
I pay people at the laundromat to iron that shit for me. But they put the folded clothes in the bag and by the time I get home they're a bit crumpled up.

I feel like there should be a better way to do this.

Doesn't the laundromat have those cart thingies to move clothes around?

I just use a plastic hamper/container. http://www.containerstore.com/s/laundry/hampers-baskets/comfort-grip-laundry-basket/12d?productId=10025588

Or this if you have a lot of clothes: http://www.containerstore.com/s/laundry/hampers-baskets/hamper-with-wheels/12d?productId=10026191

Wait why are your clothes so wet that your bag is dripping? Your clothes shouldn't be that wet coming out of the washer.

When I went to the laundromat, I took the clothes in the laundry basket and wheeled them between machines in the nifty carts they have there.

I would not, personally, pay someone to iron, but I would certainly iron for money.

I use a large wicker laundry basket that my mom bought me in 1979. That was kind of a good investment!

Ikea or similar bag inside the backpack you used to bike your stuff to the laundromat.
Don't need to do this now but it worked fine for years.
Had to fold or roll stuff before it went back in the backpack though.
Sheets/towels and other catch-up washing got done on occasional rental-car weekends.

It must be a spin issue? They should be damp, but not dropping wet.

Exactly. My clothes come out of the washer damp, but not dripping wet, because it's gone through a spin cycle.

Maybe find a different laundromat OP?

We use this backpack from Ikea - it's sort of patterned after a military-type duffle/backpack. It's great. But I agree your laundry shouldn't be dripping! Either you're overfilling the washer or the washer is crap.

The Laundromat might intentionally have their washers set to a crappy spin cycle (low spin) to make their customers pay more on the dryer times.

I take my laundry to a laundromat down the block.  Basically get all my clothes into a laundry bag, bag goes into a shopping cart, cart is wheeled to the laundromat.  In the laundromat, there are cards on wheels to transfer clothes from washer to dryer.

The Hub once took his in a garbage bag.  On the way he stopped a Burger King (pre-frugal days) and they threw him out because they thought he was a street person.

In college I used a duffle bag as a laundry hamper. It was a fantastic choice. It was the same duffle I packed for trips home over break.

I don't use a laundromat, but if I did, I would definitely carry my clothes in this:

Don't use a laundromat, but how about putting a plastic laundry bag full of clothes into a wheeled suitcase. Use the bag for within-laundromat transfer and then stack ironed clothes in the suitcase for transport home with the empty bag folded neatly on top.

It has been a while since we didn't have an in home washer dryer but once in the middle of winter we needed to use the laundromat until the washer and dryer arrived.  I took about a weeks worth of laundry for a family of three to the laundromat in two baskets loaded into a red wagon in the snow.  It was actually not too bad and I did my homework while I was waiting.  I got some funny looks on my walk over though, but honestly I didn't care much since I was getting some well needed alone time to work.

When in college, trips home = trips to the laundromat!  Don't even need to pack clean clothes, just bring all your dirties!

Meh. I won't say it never happened, but I wasn't religiously attached to my parents' washer as some students are. Washer was too small and taking laundry on two trains was too irritating. But after finals I might have had a backlog. No shame in that! ;)
