I am one of those finance majors who learned more here than in a BS and two masters degrees

15 years teaching English in Japan. Currently 5 years in insurance, part time the last two years, customer service and support. Next month I start a new job as an RN at the big local hospital. It'll be nice, over doubling my hourly, and getting full-time hours.

Wife and are both teachers so we will never have the amazing salaries people mention bere. What we will have is a pretty decent pension and stash at retirement and ample time ( compared to most private sectors) to relax and renergize every summer leading up to retirement.  The downside to the pension is that it doesn't truly become a great deal until you've got around 30 years in. Fortunately I'll be 52 when I hit 30 years. Not a super early retirement like many here but definitely decent.

Agriculture... I am a production specialist at one of the largest mushroom farms in the Southern hemisphere. Most of it revolves around operating machines and driving forklifts and loaders to move / feed the machines. My boss has me doing a bit of paper pushing and data entry on the side which could lead somewhere better; I am going to see about gettting into the growing side of things... as in mushroom world, the growers are the gods (and paid more and don't have to be at the damn plant at 6am). Stability is good; last I checked people still ate mushrooms in economic down times.

SCIENCE!

Has it blinded you yet?

Was this meant for the guy who masturbates for a living?

Now that was a good riposte.

(for the software engineers among us, that's a way that recursion can be effectively applied to natural language discourse)

I own an online retail store. Today, I slept until 10am, played with my kids, watched a basketball game, took the whole family to the theater to see Kung Fu Panda, and have already made $400 with a few hours left to go in the day. I wouldn't trade this "job" for anything.
