DH just dropped to 4/24 so time to get him a new card. I'm considering the following:
Amex SPG. 35,000 points for 5K spend w/i 6 months. These can be turned into 50,000 airline miles. SPG card will likely be going away at some point since the hotel chain has merged with Marriott. Since Amex is "one and done", get it while it's available.
Southwest Airlines. 60,000 miles for 2K/3 months. This the largest public bonus offering in memory and who can't use Southwest points! Getting a companion pass isn't in the cards for him (for a variety of reasons) so don't consider that possibility.
Citi Hilton. 40,000 points for 1K/3 months. Hilton is leaving Citi next year leaving only Amex cards for the future. Not a great public offering so this probably isn't the one.
Barclay Aviator Red card. 50,000 AA points with 1st purchase.
All the spends are possible. I don't want to get him above 5/24 so that we have access to Chase cards every few months. I'm familiar with all the 5/24, one and done, 24 month rules, etc. We just got back from a mostly free European vacation and I'm not sure what our next trip will be. But all these points would be useable. I know that there are many more cards, some of which he already has or has had within the past 2 years.
Anyone have opinions on which of these is the best selection? Anyone have a referral link which is a good or better than the public offers on these cards?
