What are your literal dreams about retirement?
« on: February 08, 2017, 06:44:47 AM »
SO and I are targeting a 2020 retirement. We've brainstormed at great lengths about what that might mean for us, and what a normal day might look like post-retirement. Last night was the first night I had an ACTUAL DREAM about being retired. It was kind of hilarious actually. It went like this...

I woke up and had some breakfast and walked to the United States capitol. Apparently I retired in D.C. I literally just walked into the congress chamber and waited until it was my turn to speak (I was on the agenda for the day). I got behind a podium and proceeded to shout at and scold the entire room. It was like a scene out of Grumpy Old Men. I was scolding like, "You all act like children. Stop trying to make money. DO THE RIGHT THING." This went on for at least a half an hour. Then I was like ok, bye, see you all tomorrow. Then I walked to a nearby public library where the librarian proceeded to give me a nice little tour. He was like, "Here's the nonfiction section, there are books about history, and finance, and some other things... then here's fiction, where you can read about romance, or science fiction, or Stephen King..." I interrupted, "You mean Stephen King has his own section?" "Why yes he does, have you SEEN all the books he's written," "Well ok then, I didn't know he was such a bfd. Thank you for the tour!" Then I sat in the library and read books all day, but not Stephen King. The end.

Then my alarm went off and I was like noooooo, why is this alarm set, I am retired!!! Then I woke up to just another Wednesday. This is definitely not how I imagined my retirement, but if this ends up as my typical retirement day, I'm still in!

Does anyone else have literal retirement dreams they'd care to share? I imagine they can be quite amusing.

I've had exactly one retirement dream. It was a bit stressful. I woke up, realized I was late for work and rushed to get out of the house. I RAN the nearly 2 miles to the train stop full tilt. When I arrived, huffing and puffing, there was an old guy there sweeping up the train tracks. Literally using a push broom to remove train tracks. He looked at me oddly for a moment and then said "You retired, so we didn't need this train stop anymore."

That's when my alarm went off and I woke up, realizing I was entirely on time for work and that the train station would still be there, tracks and all, when I arrived.

I dreamed my husband and I had our own little patch of land, and our Quonset hut home we always wanted. I was a stay at home wife who cleaned and cooked awesome food, and took care of our child (we don't have one in real life).

It was actually pretty awesome. Then the alarm went off and I woke up in our apartment, and had to get ready for work.

Not mine but my BF had a dream a few nights ago that we bought a beautiful, run-down old Queen Anne house and were planning our renovations.  He was in the middle of redesigning the library/study when the alarm went off.

@DeskJockey2032 - I love the old guy sweeping up the train tracks. I would be giving that train station the side-eye that morning.

@spartana - The zombie horde arriving on bikes or walking made me lol... Also, having dreams that you're back at work sound like my ever-so-often recurring dream that I'm smoking cigarettes again (quit for 14 years). I wake up like oh no, I've had a relapse. I imagine it's a similar feeling to dream you're back at work again lol. I mentioned this dream of yours to my SO and he said if he were in that position (retired and dreamed about being back at work), he'd wake up cackling and go back to bed like "suckers." Oh, one day we'll be there haha.

@BussoV6... Mmmm cheese :) Gotta have some fun around here to pass the time!

Thanks for sharing all. These are great!
