what an awesome community
« on: April 08, 2015, 10:05:57 AM »
Here's the scenario:
Member 1: I think this, that and the other thing.
Member 2: Listen member 1, you're way off base about this, that AND the other thing. You should think twice before posting stuff like that.
Member 1: Actually I never said anything close to that and don't appreciate you taking me out of context.  Just to clarify since you missed it the first time: the other thing, this and that.

In any other forum this results in ten pages of these guys going at each other for ten pages with other members taking sides. On the MMM forum?

Member 2: Well bud I didn't mean to take you out of context. We'll just agree to disagree.  Next time you're in my area let's grab a beer.
Member 1: No hard feelings.  A beer sounds great!

I've seen this happen at least three times on this forum.  That's so awesome!

In our defense, we're also capable of having extended, knock down, drag out conversations where everyone acts like a complete douchebag.  But yeah, it's also less frequent here, which I do find refreshing as well.  I think there's a tipping point where when you have enough positive behavior, people find themselves naturally behaving better.  There's probably a sociological study to be had there.

We also have good and active moderators, which is a big part of it, too.  A lot of what would spiral out of control is nipped in the bud.

I agree and this is one of the reasons I like being here so much. People are generally very mature about disagreements.

I disagree, and will engage in fistycuffs with anyone who says otherwise!

I am a former teacher who accumulated a bunch of real estate, retired at 29, spent some time traveling the world full time and am now settled with three kids.

We just happen to be a particularly rational and intelligent group of people.  Oops my back is worn out from patting and my arm is sore.

Or 2ndT just needs to build up some stamina.  Once you've got enough, your back and arm will be strong enough to do it all day long!  :)

I dunno.  I've seen my share of Professionally Offended people on here.  But that's to be expected in any forum, I suppose.

I did a post about veganism ~ a year ago.

I was contented to see what I posted was treated with respect. A few comments were (I would call) disrespectful, but in the whole, the respect was way higher than if it appeared anywhere else.

It seems no matter how altruistic is someone's behavior, on the internet someone will always have something negative to contribute. (Especially witness comments after an article about MMM.)

The only time I've ever didn't read a snide remark in the comments was when Robin Williams died.

Eric and ARebelSpy:  I will start a GoFundMe Page to collect money to sign up at an expensive gym to improve my form and stamina.

Cheers to all!
