A new radio in the master bath.  I am currently using one of these, https://www.allaboutprops.biz/clocks?lightbox=dataItem-k84xrp031 , that I bought in 1990 when I got my first apartment.  That single speaker has lived it's life.

Post an ask on your local BuyNothing group.  This is the kind of thing that is likely to be avaiable.

If you don't care about it being pretty, you can use old computer speakers for this.  Usually they can be jerry rigged to work with a 1/8" jack which can then play stuff off most phones, ipods, tablets.  It's what I'm using as our kitchen speakers now.

I use computer speakers with a subwoofer in the garage. Despite being free and aged - they sounds really good. They connect to anything with a 1/8" stereo jack or via a $15 bluetooth dongle.

Some nicer hiking pants. Are they really that much better than the jeans I have now? I dunno. It just feels weird to want pants when I already have so many jeans I should probably give some away...

Hiking pants are lighter and dry faster than jeans. If you know the size and brand you like, you can likely find exactly what you want on a reseller like Poshmark or ThredUp or even Ebay. Or the manufacturer might have returns/gently used versions (I know Patagonia does)

Thanks for the tip! I will have to look into those.

Eddie Bauer makes good synthetic hiking pants in different weights, and they always have a sale going on. I have some Prana hiking pants I love love love. They’re not cheap and it’s difficult to find my size, but they’re comfortable, have a great cut (for me), and bonus - they look good. No matter what you get, they’ll be better than jeans just because of the breathability and quick drying fabric.

I also have some Prana hiking pants that I love love love. If you hike twice a year, probably not worth the price. If you hike a lot, I’d say it is worth it. Cotton is generally bad for hiking as they lock in moisture which can be both uncomfortable and also a liability if weather conditions get at all chilly.

Omnilux led light face mask to reduce wrinkles, add firmness and get rid of age spots.  It's $395 but I can get a 10% discount so $355 free shipping.  Someone please stop me.

I'm 50.  I'm losing weight and I want my skin to look good after I lose almost 40 pounds rather than having my face dragging on the floor.  And yes, it does work.  There's another type that works too, Ecoface for $250, so 100 bucks less but not as comfortable or versatile.  I'm thinking of maybe getting the Omnilux for my bday in April but that's so far away, like 11 weeks and by then I hope to lose another 10 to 15 pounds on my journey--I'm already down 14.  I just don't want to finally get thin-ish but then look 100 yrs old.  Also, I have dark spots on forehead, melasma or hyperpigmentation.  So it would be great for that.  Please talk me out of getting this tomorrow--or right now.

Duluth Trading Company also has hiking pants and periodic good deals.

For women, the pockets in Duluth Trading Company are generally deeper and more useful than the pockets on Eddie Bauer's pants.

I'd want to see some pretty rock-solid, peer-reviewed, properly-performed studies proving significant effectiveness of that particular model for the specific effects you're wanting to see.  There's an awful lot of snake oil being peddled out there...

It absolutely works.  It's FDA approved for the exact purposes it claims and this one is made by the makers of the in office dermatologist one with the same wave lengths of red and near infer red led lights and the most lights of any mask available and sits right up against the skin.

Also Angie from Hot and Flashy on Youtube did a 3 months analysis with accompanying research on a dozen different brands and several were great including the cheaper one, Ecoface, which was the first one she tried, but after the deep dive she settled on the Omnilux.  She details all the research, the FDA info, the correct wavelengths of light, the power, intensity, number of lights, plus she's 60 and looks 12, so yeah it works. :)  Really though, it is a sure thing.

And I want it so bad.  I'm trying not to care how I look but I can't help it.

OMG, you guys are supposed to be talking me out of it!  lol.

Seriously though, Angie's channel called Hot and Flashy--the link below goes to her three LED mask reviews where she goes into great detail, she contacts the companies, she gets all the stats, and she does a 3 month trial with before and after pics.
https://www.hotandflashy.com/tag/omnilux/
I know that doesn't mean anything since anybody can do before and after pics, but I've been watching her channel for years, she's turning 60, and the thing she "pushes" most is sunscreen.  After sunscreen, Tretinoin.  After that, Vit C serum at 20% of L Ascorbic Acid, with ferulic acid and vit e to stabilize it.  These seem to be the things she touts the most.
Sunscreen, tretinoin, and vit C have been her staples for years. She rotates other products in and out to test them and does before and after pics of them and makeup, etc.

I have no doubt at all that this works.  And of course, as a mustachian I have the money--I haven't lived pay check to pay check in years.  I even sell tradelines to add to the pot.  But its so much money.  You can't just keep saying, "Sure, I have the money," and then eventually you're broke.  I mean it's not a necessity and other ppl have real problems and it's a lot of money.  Even though it works, and even though I've just about lost 15 pounds and am on the way to losing another 20, and even though I turn 51 in April, well. . . I feel guilty.  Oooh, what if I don't buy another bottle of nail polish for the entire year?  Or clothes?  Or yarn?

oooh, what if I do Yoga with Adrienne 30 Yoga Journey every single day for a month?  I only got to day 4 last time I tried.

1983 Honda FT 500 Ascot. This might be the second Ascot I've posted on this thread?
I sold my motorcycle 10 years ago but I still look at used bikes on Craigslist.
Because I need another thing to put in my shop and not use...

Well, the object of my desire was within my grasp - but allegedly someone else got their deposit processed first because the salesman transcribed my CCd security code incorrectly, and it bounced.

Argh. More soon, I hope.

Replacing my portable Rigid Pro tool boxes with the Milwaukee packout system. Specifically the sliding drawer tool boxes . I hate having to unstack and sift through tool boxes for my ever growing collection of tools. I always feel so unorganized at job sites when I have my tools and tool boxes scattered everywhere. Trying to talk myself out of them but I keep thinking it might actually speed up my jobs a bit being more organized.

I know. I agree. They keep making the pack out system better. The drawers are a real game changer.

But they are SO expensive……..

Yes they do. I am still back and forth about them. I am contemplating just getting the 2 drawer and 3 drawer as a test run. I can offset some of the cost by selling my Rigid boxes. I am wondering too how they would impact my old man back. Constantly bending over sifting through tool boxes takes a toll on me.

Estate sales are a great place to find these types of things at a discount. I really like my tool chest with drawers. I do recommend setting it up somewhere that you don’t have blank counter space in front of it. As a disorganized person, I often set things on the counter in front of it, effectively blocking the lowest drawer.

Unfortunately I need portable tool boxes. Tool chest are pretty easy to find especially on Craigslist. I've had some nice tool chest over the years for sure. The Milwaukee packout drawer system I believe is relatively new. I remember buying the Rigid a few years ago thinking it sure would be nice if they had the option of boxes with drawers built into them. Now they do but in a different brand ) :

I wouldn't be surprised if other manufacturers start making them as well considering their popularity.

I had been pretty lust-free (well, as far as "stuff") for the past few months, which was nice.  However, I recently got my eye on the Garmin Fenix line of sports watches.  I sort of knew that they sounded cool abstractly, but with crazy price points that would never have me considering them.  I did recently notice that with the release of the newest "7" generation, that some places had the 6 for about half of the previous price.  That led down a bit of a rabbit hole, and now I'm lusting after the 6 Pro, which unfortunately has not seen the sort of drastic price cuts that the 6 has.

Is this a "stupid" lust?  Perhaps...I do have a watch that works fine, and has silent alarms - the most important feature for me (and one reason I have zero interest in an Apple Watch with its one-day battery life).  However, the prospect of easy, comprehensive tracking from my wrist of all my hiking/mountain biking/kayaking/e-biking, with maps right on the watch face, is pretty tantalizing.

I do get much of, but not all, of the functionality of the watch between my current watch (super cheapo smartwatch from Amazon) and my cell phone, but with a lot of inconvenience of fumbling through gloves, taking off backpacks, fiddling with waterproof bags in a kayak, and so forth.  My wife did point out that I have a birthday coming up...

Have you checked out Coros watches? They're a great Garmin alternative, cheaper, amazing battery life, and super supportive small company. After I got my Coros Apex a couple of years ago, my friends all converted to Coros too. www.coros.com

I've always wondered at people wearing jeans when skiing.  I guess they never fall?

Re jeans when skiing: we wore jeans when we did cross-country skiing, but that was because my Mum had waterproofed them; the waterproofing lasted about a week, just long enough.

Have you checked out Coros watches? They're a great Garmin alternative, cheaper, amazing battery life, and super supportive small company. After I got my Coros Apex a couple of years ago, my friends all converted to Coros too. www.coros.com

Thanks for the pointer, I'll check it out.  At first glance, might not save any money (since the Garmins will be much easier to find used), but worth it to look at an alternative.

Thanks for sending this out. When my Fitbit dies I'll likely look to move into GPS supported options and these look perfect.

Ha, I reached my breaking point with my current setup and broke down and bought some of the packout drawer units. I am finding that I just keep tossing tools and attachments to the side only to need them again in a bit. Stuff just gets piled up and I feel way too disorganized to function as efficiently as I could be. Time will tell if this helps me. I already received 3 of the 2 drawer packout boxes and excited to get tools transferred over and organized this weekend. May buy some foam inserts as well.

I managed to get 20% back on each box through a combination of Chase offers and a cash back site. I'll clean up and sell my current boxes to offset some more cost.

I never really lust for stupid things :)  Or really lust for any material thing really. I think I have everything I need.  Pretty darn content :)  If I want something, that I don't really need but would like to play with, I usually try to buy it fully depreciated (or close to it), so I can sell it and get all (most) of my money back. I hate buying things that depreciate instantly by large amounts .. I have to expense depreciation in my books, but the depreciated cost of item gets transferred to my Discretionary Assets account and is part of my net worth.  Helps with the guilt of buying toys knowing it's just a different type of current asset I can resell later without much loss if any.

An imac, the 24 inch one with the really thin monitor.

I have no need for one. It doesnt do anything my 2018 MBP doesn't do. It has M1 instead of an intel i5, but I'm not sure if that is going to make any practical difference.

Seemingly all it does that my macbook pro does do, is be really un-portable, and not sit on my lap, and not have a battery.

Why do I want one.

I don't consider the purchases stupid but hold me back so I don't  buy a third electric pedal assist mountain bike! Here are my first two I bought in the last six months:

I used to ride motorcycles when I was younger and also mountain biked up until about 6 years ago, until I started dreading the climbing. These bikes are the most wheeled fun Ive had in years, an absolute blast to ride!

I want a Raspberry Pi Zero 2 W. Pretty inexpensive when in stock. It’s stupid because I have numerous other Pis around the house that I am not even close to using to their full capability most of the time. But every single time I see them in stock I come close to clicking 'add to cart'. I will keep denying myself this little pleasure for now, but at some point…

It'll be massively faster.  Given the value retention of Apple products, it may be worth considering selling the MBP and getting an M1 (or the upcoming M2) Air.  It'll be a faster machine with stupid battery life and they've been going on sale for ~$800 lately.

All band, all mode, portable amateur radio rig.

I've been lusting for the FT-817 since it was introduced way back in 2001. Finally, the market segment got interesting with the IC-705 and cheap Chinese rigs like the QR20.

I've been denying myself this for 20 years now I guess, that's got to be worth something, right?

Any old rigs on Ebay? I know that on boats, a lot of people aren't choosing sidebands (which IMO a lot of boaters were doing ham radios illegally on sideband frequencies) - I'd have to think that there might be some out ready for a new home.

Amateur radio stuff tends to hold it's value ridiculously well.   Have been watching the used markets and there's never really been any killer deals.   In fact, prices are so close to MSRP, it's hardly worth the gamble buying used.

You know about email and texting right? Radios are obsolete! ;)

Friend just gave me a spare SDR he had laying around. Spent some time learning to use it. Mostly only know what friend has taught me.

Damn kid, get off my lawn!

I caved and ordered the FT-818 this morning.  It's a slight revision to a radio that's been in production for over 20 years now.  I'd be lying if I said there wasn't a certain amount of nostalgia I have for the HF bands and old timey inverted SSB satellite transponders.

The newer SDR based radios make for some interesting opportunities, but since this rig is going to be bouncing around in backpacks and bike panniers and operated from weird spots, I wanted something with a minimum of fiddly bits.

A 12.9-inch iPad Pro for reading music so I don’t have to wrestle with turning pages while playing the piano or lug around a pile of books. I went so far as to put a refurbished one in my cart today ( half the price of a new one but still $600).

I am not a professional pianist or piano teacher, just a serious hobbyist.

There's got to be a cheaper option that would work just as well that's not suffering from Apple price inflation.

I'm worse than you - I have radios with vacuum tubes. Zenith Transoceanics x3 - different versions. Also a Baofeng, the SDR, and a couple of pocket Am/FM/SW radios for camping trips. Nothing I own will transmit but the Baofeng. Wish long distance radio (SW) was as active as it was when I was a kid and just learning. Still fun to tune in something on an analog tuner.

Wow, a phone plan for fifteen bucks!
