Too lazy to link it but "save dat money" by Lil Dicky. Hilarious rap song about being frugal.

There's a choir called Reverend Billy and the Stop Shopping Choir. They're an anti-consumerist/pro-environment group. Probably anything they sing would be in the running! They do political protest type performances by going to, e.g., a Walmart on Black Friday and singing songs about not ruining the world by buying tons of crap. When I saw them they were handing out free packets of heirloom vegetable seeds.

Johnny Paycheck (very fitting name) "You Can Take This Job and Shove it"

When this song came out I heard it on the radio while we were driving in my mom's Ford Granada (had an 8 track) and begged her to buy me the song.

I often wonder how or if that song molded my then 6 year old mind leading me to where I am in life.

King of the Road, by whoever happens to be singing it.
Another song that I was enamored with as a kid, heard it at my grandma's house and even have it on my phone to this day.

I disagree with everyone who lists this song.  While it has points about how 50$ is crazy for a Tshirt that everyone else also has, it also has points where he sings about buying a broken keyboard merely for the fact they are selling a broken keyboard.  To me the song sounds like it's about mindless consumerism...albeit in a thrift shop.

I'll edit to add:  It's also about having enough confidence and swagger to look fly in anything, maybe that's the mustachian part?

I wonder how Pete would feel about this list so far.  Very little about saving the planet, protecting the environment, which I *thought* was a pillar of Mustachianism.  Doesn't bother me because I'm only mainly Mustachian for the money, but I never realized I had so much company. :)

Plug my favorite "Society" again

It's a mystery to me
We have a greed
With which we have agreed

You think you have to want
More than you need
Until you have it all you won't be free

Society, you're a crazy breed
I hope you're not lonely without me

When you want more than you have
You think you need
And when you think more than you want
Your thoughts begin to bleed

I think I need to find a bigger place
'Cause when you have more than you think
You need more space

Society, you're a crazy breed
I hope you're not lonely without me

Society, crazy and deep
I hope you're not lonely without me

There's those thinking more or less less is more
But if less is more how you're keeping score?
Means for every point you make
Your level drops
Kinda like it's starting from the top
You can't do that

Society, you're a crazy breed
I hope you're not lonely without me
Society, crazy and deep
I hope you're not lonely without me

Society, have mercy on me
I hope you're not angry if I disagree
Society, crazy and deep
I hope you're not lonely without me

For those of you with a family: maybe this would be the least mustachian song, but I can't think of any other that better explains the whole concept so I nominate:

Cats in the Cradle - Harry Chapin

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KUwjNBjqR-c

My child arrived just the other day
He came to the world in the usual way
But there were planes to catch and bills to pay
He learned to walk while I was away
And he was talkin' 'fore I knew it, and as he grew
He'd say "I'm gonna be like you dad
You know I'm gonna be like you"

And the cat's in the cradle and the silver spoon
Little boy blue and the man on the moon
When you comin' home dad?
I don't know when, but we'll get together then son
You know we'll have a good time then

My son turned ten just the other day
He said, "Thanks for the ball, Dad, come on let's play
Can you teach me to throw", I said "Not today
I got a lot to do", he said, "That's ok"
And he walked away but his smile never dimmed
And said, "I'm gonna be like him, yeah
You know I'm gonna be like him"

And the cat's in the cradle and the silver spoon
Little boy blue and the man on the moon
When you comin' home son?
I don't know when, but we'll get together then son
You know we'll have a good time then

Well, he came home from college just the other day
So much like a man I just had to say
"Son, I'm proud of you, can you sit for a while?"
He shook his head and said with a smile
"What I'd really like, Dad, is to borrow the car keys
See you later, can I have them please?"

And the cat's in the cradle and the silver spoon
Little boy blue and the man on the moon
When you comin' home son?
I don't know when, but we'll get together then son
You know we'll have a good time then

I've long since retired, my son's moved away
I called him up just the other day
I said, "I'd like to see you if you don't mind"
He said, "I'd love to, Dad, if I can find the time
You see my new job's a hassle and kids have the flu
But it's sure nice talking to you, Dad It's been sure nice talking to you"
And as I hung up the phone it occurred to me
He'd grown up just like me
My boy was just like me

And the cat's in the cradle and the silver spoon
Little boy blue and the man on the moon
When you comin' home son?
I don't know when, but we'll get together then son
You know we'll have a good time then

Macklemore's "Thrift Shop" is definitely way up there.

The song is catchy, but my "issue" with it not belonging is that "pop some tags" means switching tags (taking tags/stickers from a cheaper item and putting them on the more expensive one you want to buy).  So, basically stealing, even if you still pay some money for the item.  I knew a girl who would do something similar with shoes.  She switched boxes and they just scanned in the barcode on the box, but not compare the shoes in the box to those in the little picture on the box.  She walked out with $80 shoes for $15 (not exact dollar amounts, but close).  I didn't shop with her again.

Getting a good deal, buying used, inexpensive, etc, are all MM ideals, but I don't think stealing/lying/dishonesty really fits.

An obvious one but a goodie by the Beatles - Money Can't Buy Me Love.

Also agree that Thrift Shop isn't really a mustachian one - read the lyrics - there's a lot of buying shit quality stuff, and some plain dumb shit... a broken keyboard anyone?

And which mustachian only has $20 to their name?

Funny someone named Simple Gifts. I learned to play that song on the piano when I was really young and always loved it. I never really thought about that mustachian connection until 5 minutes ago.

I think Jay-Z's The Story of OJ also contains an important message for young kids. He is able to get a message across to a lot of young kids that FI is possible, and not just for people who are born into money.

I'm pretty sure in this instance it's a reference to a Jay Z song about buying expensive clothes - http://rap.genius.com/Jay-z-poppin-tags-lyrics#note-1249892.

Yeah, I'm not hip with what the whippersnappers are saying these days, but my impression of "pop some tags" meant popping the little plastic tag holder thingy off *after* you have purchased the item.

The Air That I Breathe

If I could make a wish
I think I'd pass
Can't think of anything I need
No cigarettes, no sleep, no light, no sound
Nothing to eat, no books to read

 . . .
All I need is the air that I breathe
And to love you

Thats a good one.
I once read somewhere that apparently "A hard day's night" (with the lyrics "..you know I work all day to get you money to buy you things...") was written by Lennon sort of in response to the naive optimism of McCartney's "Can't buy me love"...but I can't find this anywhere on the internet so I dunno how true it is.
Anyway, on the same album is both a mustachian and an anti-mustachian love song :D

I used to think "Cheap Thrills" because when I first heard it on the radio I thought they were saying they were going to "hit the dumpster".  Imagine my chagrin when I googled it and realized she's saying "Dance Floor"
