Mine came from here
http://www.urbandictionary.com/define.php?term=porn%20name&defid=1411600

Then I should change my name to Michael Murdoch. Not a bad handle for the industry in my opinion.

Good heavens, that would make me Cool Rio. Ick.

PFHC: Pumpkinfart Hammercrotch

Ya.

The story goes...

Several months before my lovely first child was born, I was sitting on my porch rottenly drunk on a horrid concoction of a days worth of beer, a dinner's worth of wine, a glass worth of whiskey, and a shot worth of June bugs. I was attempting to have a deep conversation about life with my equally drunk close friend. We came haltingly around to the subject of my then rather pregnant wife, who was inside sleeping. Said subject moved to the topic of baby names. He asked what I planned to name my first kid.

I looked straight at him and said, "Pumpkinfart Hammercrotch".

And so, a family inside joke was born.

To be taken somewhat seriously on a somewhat serious forum, I abbreviated to the more socially palatable PFHC.

H82GOSLW was the license plate I had on both my Corvettes and my Z-28 (not all at that same time) back when I was racing street legal cars at Watkins Glen and Limerock and doing some 1/4 mile strips.   You wouldn't believe how many comments I would get on that plate, especially from LEOs.

Definitely lived an anti-mustachian lifestyle back then. Now I drive a newish Altima that gets 41 mpg and just gave my old Altima with 252,000 miles to my kid who just got her license.  My how people change with time.  Well....I still have that need for speed so now I go snowmobiling in the Adirondacks   It's A LOT cheaper than racing cars.

iluvzbeach = I love the beach, a screen name I've used since '93 or so back when choosing an AOL name. Also used lvzbeach in instances where names were limited to 8 digits way back when. Name was chosen when I lived in the beach cities of SoCal, but seems a bit odd now that I'm in TX, about as far away from good beaches as one can get. TX beaches really don't count in my book.

Wait...

Good name.  If I weren't already Retired at 63 (I will keep this name when I hit 64) I would be Princess Elizabeth, she is pretty amazing.  Trivia question - Who can name the book she is in, and the author, without looking it up?

Paperbag Princess, by Robert Munsch?

Not very creative, I'm afraid - JJ is the nickname I use when in anglophone territory, as my actual name (starting with J) is hard to pronounce or remember for English speakers. It was given to me out of frustration by my English ex's best friend. And NL is short for where I live: in the Netherlands.

My screen name has nothing to do with my personality, just a reference to a Clunker Crit where a girl had a, uh, wardrobe malfunction.  She used some Surly bike bumper stickers that were being handed out to preserve her modesty.  XH couldn't stop talking about it for weeks ("Wish I had a Surly Girl!", as though he'd never seen boobs in his life, and I wore a chastity bra 24/7).  I had to register for something around that time, and after my 5th attempt at some variation on my name/location/favorite TV show just to find it was taken and I'd have to tack on the square root of pi after it, I put in "surlygirl".  Shockingly, people weren't flocking to claim a username that screamed "zOMG, she's on the rag, run away!" so it was mine for the taking.  I signed up for the Dave Ramsey website with it, never thinking that I'd actually participate in the forums or else I'd have chosen "fartsrainbows" or something. I eventually came to terms with my pseudo-surliness, so here we are.

As for my avatar, I just googled "woman mustache" and picked the awesomest one.

I ran cross country and track fairly competitively in high school, and it's my preferred form of exercise.  To me, distance running is about putting in persistent work over a long period of time to get your results, much like building financial independence. Running the gauntlet through the flames is an image I like to use to puff up my ego when the daily grind feels monotonous.  I put the FIRE in caps, because puns.

The subtle meaning behind my handle is that I like cats. Actually, it's a nickname that a friend gave me while we were still acquaintances in college after I told her I liked cats (I don't remember how the topic even came about) before physics class started. Most of my college friends referred to me as such, and it remains a prominent nickname of mine to this day.

Someone once pointed out to me that KittyCat is a very strange thing to say (same with puppy dog) because it's akin to saying baby adult. Anyway, I shall never forget that.

Vlad The Impaler.
Vlad III, known as Vlad the Impaler or Vlad Dracula.
Dracula loosely translates to "the son of the dragon"

By the River is a reflection of both where I am and where I may be going.  My office building is by a large river.  If the FIRE plans work, I'll retire to a place next to a river, lake or ocean.  If the plans don't work, I can always "Live in a van, DOWN by the river!"

Going car-less was the first real mustachian thing that I did.  I'd always been fairly frugal by default, but never really put any thought into optimizing my spending in the way that's encouraged on this site.  After finding the site and lurking around a bit, I decided to sell my beloved Honda Fit.  I had bought it for my first job in the Ottawa Valley where it really was necessary (no public transit at all) but I didn't actually need it any more after my relocation to Kingston.  It was hard to give up but I didn't use it much and the 7k I got for it (after 6 years of ownership) was pretty good considering the original purchase price of 16.5k.  More importantly I was saving $140 a month just between insurance and parking which made a real difference to a then-graduate student.

It was a huge annoyance arranging things (inspection, meetings, ads) and I had to do some rapid repairs when the key on drivers side jammed leading to very fiddly job getting in and fixing it.  Still, I think it impressed my (then new) boyfriend that I was willing to go the distance on the job.

Since then I've taken other steps to optimize my spending but that was the first big hurdle, so I commemorated it in my user name.

Ruby Vroom is my favorite album by Soul Coughing, released in 1994. My avatar is the album cover. Soul Coughing albums were my go-to during my troubled high school years. I may also sometimes go by the Wichita handle, as in "True Dreams of Wichita," which is a song track on the same album. This also tends to make people think I live in Kansas, so it serves as somewhat a diversion of a name.

I play a lot of video games and I'm usually late to the party to take any of the "popular" or "normal" names, so I use my creative prowess to steal names from musicians, as generally folks don't use those names in video games (especially not albums from 1994 LOL). You'll see every bastardized version of William Wallace that people can think of (Willam Wallece, Willliam Walllace, Wwilliam Wwallce, etc.), but I've yet to encounter a Ruby Vroom. In all my gaming years, I've encountered just ONE person in game that went OOOOOH SOUL COUGHING! Ha.

Can't get you a Ruby Vroom, but Ruby Froom is the daughter of Suzanne Vega (of "Luka" fame) and producer Mitchell Froom (they were married, but are now divorced).  Here's a video of mother and daughter performing:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zdaRH_fyYA0

Apparently the album was actually named after Ruby Froom:

My name is Laura and I was born in 1982--pretty straight-forward! I wanted to use "Ramblin' Ma'am," which I use on various PF and travel forums, but the site doesn't allow apostrophes as part of a user name.

[MOD EDIT: Not for a login/user name, but you can use it for a display name.  Changed it for you, though you can change it back in your profile, if you'd like. Either way, you'll still use your original name to login. :) ]

Nice, finally the username I always wanted

Didn't you do mirror--or upside down?--arebelspy once for April Fools' Day?  You of all people should know funky characters are allowed.  ;)

That wasn't me, it was Australian you

I must have missed that, but it should totally be a thing. Any time I'm South of the equator*, my username shall be pɐǝɹuɐpɹoɾ

*Geographically, that is. Otherwise, it'd be way too much work.
