I finally saw Playing with FIRE tonight and spotted @arebelspy at Camp Mustache. There was a flight attendant there, was that @MissNancyPryor ?? There was a married couple, the wife had short hair and I think the husband spoke. Do they post here? Anyone else care to say who they or others were if they were in the film?
what did you think of the documentary? I was really excited for it but I wasn't able to make it to the local screening, haven't really heard much about it since.
I really enjoyed it! Lots of interviews with prominent writers in the field (I kept whispering "OMG it's so and so!" to my DH)... It showed the struggle of a family transitioning from a traditional spendy pants lifestyle to a FIRE budget. I used to be a spendy pants and it took me a long time to finally rid myself of those feelings, so it resonated with me. It's a great introduction to the concept, has a nice story and has some fun chats for us FIRE fan girls and fan boys.
I"ve seen criticisms that they follow a family who doesn't achieve FIRE by the end of the film. This is true. I think the choice of the subjects makes it more accessible to normal people. We're already geeking out on this board and listening to podcasts. I do personally wish that they'd chosen at least one more FIREee who's retired to discuss their journey in more detail so it could have been compared and contrasted against the family just starting out.
