WA State Health Care Options - Self Employed
« on: December 11, 2018, 11:41:11 AM »
I don't qualify for any kind of discounts or anything and the cheapest health care option this year is about $315 a month (up from about $250 in 2018). I utilize an HSA plan. I'm single and have no kids. Are there better options out there that aren't on WashingtonHealthPlanFinder???

I'm a healthy individual and have gone to the doctor 1 time in the last several years and it was for kidney stones (first experience with them and had no idea).

I just want to make sure I'm getting the best option out there as far as price goes. The health insurance, for me, is simply a catastrophic plan more than anything. Broken leg, car wreck, etc...

I appreciate any input.

bump, anyone? There are just a few days left to lock in the 2019 health care option. Thanks.

Not a problem, I'm open for any and all information. Thank you very much for your post. They don't leave you many options. I'm currently on the bronze HSA plan now and have been for a couple years. It is the cheapest HSA plan out of the two options, lol.

I was just hoping there was another option out there that is "Off the Exchange".

I was with group health as a kid on my parents insurance 20+ years ago. I had kaiser the last 2 years, but have never had to use them so I can't say about any experiences. They just gladly take my money. I think if you don't have to use the plan you should get some money back. haha. Some sort of benefit anyways.

$315 a month, wow! One of the reasons I stay W2 is every time I look at family plans that get close to my current one it's north of $2k/month. Even for a bronze plan it's over $1k/month, woohoo!

Do you have any options for Catastrophic plans (non-Bronze)? For me the Catastrophic plan is cheaper than the HSA eligible bronze plan. Do the math to see if the HSA tax break is worth the additional cost.

See this post: https://forum.mrmoneymustache.com/ask-a-mustachian/help-choosing-aca-health-insurance-plan-hsa-or-cheap-catastrophic-plan/

I ended up going with Catastrophic over the bronze plan.

We've been doing Liberty Health Share the past year. It's a learning curve, but the other options were miserable.

Are the health share plans still deductible on taxes for self employed? Is it HSA compatible?
