Uber Everywhere
« on: February 03, 2017, 05:49:49 PM »
I bike, bus, and uber everywhere because I don't have a car yet and what I found is I enjoy the social aspect of the pool rides as well. I even went on a date with someone I met in a pool. But I was just biding my time until I found a car I liked - it wasn't meant to be forever. Was about 24 hours from purchasing an $11K car at 1% when I discovered Uber Packages

---$10 = 20 rides where an uber pool = $1.99 and an uberX = $3.99
---$20 = 40 rides where an uber pool = $1.99 and an uberX = $3.99

This means that commuting to and from work every day for one month is $100. For a year, ~$1200. In the spring I'll be biking so I won't use it everyday. I don't know how long this service will last but considering that $1,200 doesn't even cover yearly car insurance, let alone gas, maintenance, and potential accidents, I think I'm better off with this for as long as it lasts. Even when I add a couple $10 weekend rides per month if i go over the limit it's still seems like a better option. I mean, one ride to work now costs me $11.

Wanted to share this option with anyone else who ubers everywhere

Just bought a 20 ride package for DC this morning but our rates are fifty cents higher. The normal cost for my commute via Uber would be $20 one way so a lot less expensive. I usually take the metro (subway) but it's basically the same price now so between Uber and WFH, my commute will cost under $100 for the month.
