Thought experiment:FI transitive through children
« on: May 16, 2018, 06:41:52 AM »
Thought experiment: What would your days look like if you were able to maintain the same lifestyle without working and your children had the same guarantee?

  • How would you spend your time?
  • Would you send your kids to school for 12 years and would you be concerned about their grades?
  • What would education look like if a good income wasn’t the goal?

Yeah I would still send my kids to traditional school, mostly because I want them to get exposure to other kids and adults. I’m fairly introverted and I don’t trust myself to make that happen on its own. Better to send them to the repository of other children to interact with.

Yes, I would want them to do well in school. Being educated is its own reward, separate from earning you money.

All of this applies to me as well.

I think pursuing a "classical" education, without regards to potential income, would be valuable.  Reading all the classics, learning a romance language or two, simply learning how to think critically...all worthwhile pursuits in my book.

Yes I would still encourage higher education but would put less emphasis on the subject matter.  I currently place high value on STEM subjects because they tend to lead to higher paying jobs.  Without the need of money I would encourage a lot more sampling of subjects and see where you end up vs finding the most efficient way out of college like I did.
