Guy rented out his place and lived in his office cube for 500 days. Interesting story.

Great article.  My office would be IDEAL for living in.  Even have a shower, microwave, toaster oven, sink, fridge, and a gym very close by. And it's kinda in the middle of nowhere, super-quiet, off the radar. No way my wife would go for it though -- hahahaha!

Interesting.  I'd like to know more about the logistics.  Don't think it would work at my office.  Too many fake work-a-holics that like to stop by the office during off-hours so they can brag about it.

Oh I just read this. At first I was worried his employer would find out and fire him, but they downsized him anyway. Good for him.

Are you sure this isn't the protagonist of 50 degree below (KS Robinson).  I actually think the main character of these books is very Mustachian!

I've been following this guys blog since the beginning. It's been fun to read.
I think he's removed many of the older blog posts as he's working on a book to include all of them in.

I am a teacher, and my classroom is a former home ec room: It's got 2 kitchens, a fridge, a microwave, 3 sinks, and tons of storage space. If I weren't married with a child, I could easily live there, and it would be a pretty cushy life. I'd have the gym to myself evenings and weekends, the computer lab, enough space not to feel claustrophobic, access to plenty of outdoor space -- hell, I could even watch movies on a huge screen in the auditorium if I wanted to! (OK, I should stop thinking about this... it sounds way too awesome, LOL!)

I thought everyone in LA did that because rent is so expensive. :)

I don't go to the office very often, but mine has an e-locked bike cage, multiple showers, fridge/freezer (always stocked with water and beer, dishwasher, keurig (but I don't drink coffee), gym a few blocks away and the city's main bus station next door.

Hmmm.... Just have to convince the wife and kids.....

Hahahaha! Maybe that'll be my Plan B if something goes horribly wrong in ER. I'll have the school memorized by then, and I'm sure I can find some little storage room everyone's forgotten about.

You could always claim it was an "experiment" and something that you were "writing a paper on".

Research.

Yeah...that's the ticket.

Seriously though, I'd be willing to bet there are tons of people in the big mega corps who are sneaking off somewhere quiet. Especially in places with an insane COL, like NYC/

Beautiful. Costanza would be proud. But at my workplace, the janitors and maintenance staff would spot ya.

Great story! Experience like that will probably profit you in the personal growth department too. This would be hard for me to pull of as I work in hospital that is always staffed.

Extreme minimalism, I think.
