The first question I have
« on: November 20, 2018, 02:54:54 AM »
Hello,

I am currently new to this and was thinking about getting the help of an advisor... Does it worth it ? And how do I know if he is trustworthy ?

I took a look at the Bahamas SIA registrant ... The 2018 page is set as dangerous by my computer (http://www.scb.gov.bs/documents/Firms%20%20as%20at%2030%20September%202018.pdf). Does it mean I must use an older one to be sure it is not corrupted (like http://www.scb.gov.bs/documents/SIA%20Registrants%20as%20at%2030%20September%202017%20for%20website.pdf) ?

Sorry if this is dumb but I don't know what to do...

Answer are maybe and you can never tell if an advisor is trust worthy. I suggest doing some up front information gathering before going to an advisor. Good news is you've found a great place for information.

I believe by the time you are informed enough to be able to choose a good advisor you will know enough to manage your assets yourself. If you absolutely must have an advisor look for a fee-only fiduciary.

When people arent sure and want to get started I have no problem suggesting using a Vanguard Manager for the first 6 months to get you started. I did that, was very pleased and learned by doing it and its very inexpensive. My only request was I wanted somebody that has been there and wanted to know there credentials and they were willing to accommodate me in that.

Hello Akorsia, I can't find many members here who live in the Bahamas - I believe you are, and I want to do the same. Did you end up finding an adviser who you could trust? I have been reading up on the tax situation and have a list of questions as long as my arm but don't know who to ask for specific answers. If you have any recommendations please let me know.
