There's a big movie topic in the off topic section of the board: https://forum.mrmoneymustache.com/off-topic/what-movies-have-you-been-watching/

I just saw Nope in theaters and it was great. I really like Jordan Peele's movies.

I would've posted this topic there but I can't post in the Off Topic section for some odd reason.

Being able to post in off topic only unlocked after a certain number of total posts. The idea (right or wrong) is that it cuts down a bit on the work of the moderators by reducing the number of people who register just to argue about politics/religion.

I went to see ''Where the Crawdads Sing' only because my dear friend had a grandson with a small role. We had horrible seats (first row). I had/have not read the book, although I've only heard positive comments about it. Expected a better-than-mediocre movie. Absolutely loved it.

Last movie I saw in theaters was a kids movie, The Bad Guys. I took my niece for her birthday as an experience gift. It was a pretty good movie! I recently booked tickets at a local theater to see The Princess Bride next month. It's a movie viewing followed by a moderated discussion with Cary Elwes.

I've been to the theater twice recently, which is a big change from the last few years!  We saw Everything Everywhere All at Once, which was fantastic.  I'm very glad we went, and I don't need to see it again.

The second film was Mrs. Harris Goes to Paris, which was cute and heartwarming, and I also don't need to see again.

I rarely see movies in the theater. My wife sees them even less often.

We went to see Maverick and then went back to see it again before it leaves the theater.

Unprecedented.

Seldom do we go to a theater.  We have a really awesome drive in theater 45 minutes away.  We saw a double feature Thor love and thunder and Top Gun Maverick.  We had so much fun.  I really can't stand comic book movies, but, I just love the Thor movies.  Taika Waititi's wit is just whip smart.  My daughter and I agree that Thor Ragnarok is just one of the funnest movies ever.  We agree this Thor movie was not as good as Ragnarok, but, still a lot of fun to watch.

Top Gun had the usual cheese you would expect, but, it was a fun trip down memory lane.  I totally would air guitar Highway to the danger zone when I was a kid.

I forgot to mention it was a mustachian outing.  The place is called "The Charcoal Corral" as it has a really nice roadside burger and ice cream joint as well.  My aunt had a lawn mower deck on her garden tractor that required some welding back in the late winter/early spring.  I offered to weld it b/c that's how we roll.  She asked what she owed me which is a silly question.  A couple weeks later I got a thank you card in the mail from her with a $40 gift card to said establishment.  Funny enough the price of admission to the movie was $10 a piece.  Came to exactly $40 for the 4 of us.  Good times.  We brought our own drinks/snacks.

Hadn't gone to a movie in years before going to two movies in the theater this summer. The first was Lightyear with my nephew. The movie was sponsored by a work connection and free for the movie/snack/drinks. I wouldn't have paid for the movie, but it was fun

The second was Maverick. My husban and I went to a matinee on a rainy Saturday. We both enjoyed the movie a lot, and we were glad to see it on the big screen.

Since I have two small children, we really only ever go to the drive in theater in the summer months, about an hour away. I'm sure with gas and mileage expense, it's not much cheaper than going to the local theater. But, I bring a folding table, camp chairs, and our own food to include popcorn and the kids love it. They wear pajamas and lay out in the back of the minivan and usually pass out before the movie is over. Sometimes we'll stay for the second feature but most times it's just a nice way to see a first run movie without disturbing everyone around us. It's like $11 per adult and $1 per kid, so $24 total to see two movies (again, if we stay for the second movie).

Recently I went to a church event for the men's ministry and saw Top Gun. But apparently I didn't show up early enough and was in the second row from the screen, and had to really crank my neck to see the screen. Fun movie, but yeah I really only like higher up seats in the theater. Looking forward to seeing that again when it comes to streaming/renting at home.

Saw a movie in the theaters for the first time since the pandemic started, killing time waiting for a flight home from a business trip.  Opted for Thor: Love and Thunder.

I'm a fan of the MCU movies in general; I didn't watch that many in the theaters during Phases 2-4, but caught up and watched them all with my family during our 2020 downtime.  Yes, I know that they're not for everyone.

Thor 4 was decent.  Not up the level of Ragnarok (which I consider to be one of the top few movies in the MCU), but certainly better than the first two.  Obviously trying to recapture the magic of Ragnarok, with occasional success.

Went and saw Top Gun Maverick, won't care to see it again.  Was sort of empty and missing something although there were all the elements of a great classic.  Meh.

A very gentle reminder about why we do things this way here (because this is a very benign topic, unlike people who show up and immediately post political crap). The ban of off-topic posts by new members is not meant to be an invitation to just post off-topic stuff everywhere else on the forum - you're meant to use the forum on-topic for a while, meaning discussing/posting topics relevant to MMM and FIRE. I would really suggest using the forum as it's meant to rather than posting off-topic threads in non-off-topic areas that will likely get deleted.

I go to theaters almost exclusively for live entertainment— plays, comedy, music, etc. I’ve completely lost my appetite for in-theater movie going.

I also watch far fewer movies than I used to. We are living in what I hope if the beginning of the golden age of theatrical production. The diversity in high-quality TV series is great.

Today, I find watching my 77” LG TV with Sonos home theater setup to be a huge step-up in luxury vs. a movie theater…

I saw Elvis, because my date wanted to go. I would not have seen it otherwise.

It was what I thought it would be, so I thought it was OK.

Surprised no one else has mentioned Elvis yet.

I am getting interested in the 'Everything' and the 'Crawdad'  movie, since people are raving.

Have no interest in seeing Top Gun.

I like big theaters with high seating. Love to sit up top and get lost in a good movie. My place is only $7.50 for seniors, which apparently is quite a deal these days !

The last movie I saw in the theater was "Once Upon a Time in Hollywood" ) Tarantino).
It was rough, I don't sit well due to lower back issues. I had to go out to my truck and grab the extra lumbar support off the seat.
Crazy movie. I know the story of the Manson family well enough that I was dreading the ending. Enough said.

The last movie that I saw locally in theaters was a Star Wars movie at a vendor event several years ago.

The last two movie theater experiences I had were in my late spouse's hometown, with correspondingly low small town prices.  Midway and A Beautiful Day in the Neighborhood, but I don't remember which of the two was first or second.  November of 2019.

I saw Where the Crawdads Sing last night.  As per usual, the book is better than the movie due to more character and story development, but it was definitely a good interpretation and would satisfy anyone who didn’t read the book as a completely resolved story.  I enjoyed it as did the person who I went with, who claimed it was the best movie she had seen in a long time.  It was produced by Reese Witherspoon who has a track record of creating solid female focused content.

I almost went to “ Emily the criminal” today since I had to drive into St. Louis for a meeting, but I forgot my regular glasses. I didn’t want to watch a film with sunglasses on.

The last time I’ve been in a theater was that Tom Cruise movie, Top Gun Two. Not too long ago. Before that it was February 2020 before things closed for Covid

I saw Where the Crawdad's Sing with a girlfriend. We both read the book and both enjoyed the movie. You could definitely see the movie without reading the book, so don't let that stop you.

My husband and I both went to see Top Gun. We both loved it as well. My husband thought the first Top Gun was better (maybe it's just nostalgia), but I enjoyed them both equally.

I just watched licorice Pizza last weekend. A nice little movie.

There are Redditors seriously dinging  it for its pedophile aspect. I told those Redditors to lighten up kids, back then in 1973 that was not in the forefront of anyone’s mind.

If the gender roles were reversed would you feel the same way? I'm not a Redditor at all and I thought the movie was creepy. To each their own I guess.

We go to the movies 1-2 times per year.  Our first movie of 2022 was a couple of weeks back. Unfortunately, I would give "Nope" a nope.  We went primarily because we've loved Jordan Peele's previous movies and want to support his continued work at the box office.  Can't even say, "But the visuals made it worth seeing it on the big screen!"  Not our thing.

I doubt it since the 25-year-old character was patently uninterested in the 15-year-old, repeatedly rebuffing his bids for romance until a year or two had gone by.

But I am able to see nuance in romantic situations involving teens and adults where I fear our current societal view cannot make reasonable distinctions.

I think that's the next movie I'm going to go see. Our theatre (Regal) has $7 movie tickets on Tuesdays so it's a very reasonable date night.

Regal is doing a promotion where all movies are $3 on Sep 3. It is a pretty inexpensive theatre chain. They often have giveaways if you buy tickets through the app. Last time I went I had a free popcorn and I'll have another free popcorn if I go this week.

Went and saw Thor: Love and Thunder.  Not a boring movie at all. Very opulent and rich special effects, filled with visual appeal.  Some small annoyances but they dont hurt the movie experience.  I would recommend seeing this in theaters before its gone.

The Magnificent Ambersons

While I didn't see this in theaters this seems appropriate enough given my low post count.

This movie centers on the towns wealthiest family in the time of horse and buggy.  The main character, a young Mr. Amberson, who resembles Elon Musk, makes the terrible mistake of refuting the offer of an inventor developing a new motorcar and intervening in this soon to be successful mans advances on a female member of his family.  When his family loses their estate his bad decision making turns around to bite him back.  Had he not been so selfish and bullheaded and accepted the business offer and had not interfered in the personal affairs of the others in his family they might have done well.  I think this movie makes a good point about many things, is well done and fits into the theme of this message board.  You should check it out.
