Synchrony Bank experiences?
« on: October 28, 2015, 04:06:41 AM »
I currently use Ally Bank for savings and CDs, but if their new tiers are unsatisfactory, I'm considering Synchrony as an alternative. Those with Synchrony accounts, what has your experience been? I'm especially interested in ease of transferring funds to/from outside bank accounts, ease of opening/closing/renewing CDs, and responsiveness of customer service.

Thanks.

Can't speak to the CD bit but the transfer in/out process for their savings account is a piece of cake and the money moves fast for me, two business days.

I switched to Synchrony about two years ago. It took a few days (maybe two weeks total) to get everything opened and funded, due to having to mail in forms. Since then, everything has worked smoothly, transfers in and out are easy online. The website is easy to use.

Opening CD can be done online, but they require signatures on forms to be sent in. Closing CD requires a phone call, but it was quick and customer service didn't try to sell me anything else. No weird hidden charges. I'm pleased with them overall.

I have a CD ladder and savings account there. I don't use their atm card. I have the Synchrony account linked to my Wells Fargo checking account for easy funds transfer in or out. (I keep the Wells account for convenience of atm machines, it's free to me.)

I've only used their credit cards. They used to be awful soul-sucking vultures but in recent time I've been pleasantly surprised. Good 0% offers at times, store discounts, and once they waived a few hundred bucks in interest just by my asking after I missed a promo payoff deadline by one day.

I have an online savings account with Synchrony, because the interest rate is around 1%, which is better than the .01% I get on my Citizens checking/savings accounts that I make my payments from.  Very easy process - signed up online and funded the account with an online transfer from my main checking acct.  Had to sign some form they mailed to me, but otherwise that was it.  Haven't done much with the account, but so far it's been a good experience.

Same as the above...signing up you had to mail a couple of forms in back to them, but other than that, very easy. Money transfers in and out in 48 hours...ATM card is provided if needed.

Wow, a phone plan for fifteen bucks!
