Southwest Rapid Rewards 50,000 points for $2000 in 3 months
« on: January 27, 2017, 04:17:16 PM »
I just saw this offer
https://creditcards.chase.com/a1/southwest/50KPlus?CELL=6PLV&clk=HOMEHERO_CHASE170127

Anyone know if you can sign up for it if you already have a Premier card? Seems OK to fit the criteria for this one, but here's the fine print:
"Earn 50,000 points after you spend $2,000 on purchases in the first 3 months of opening your account.* This product is available to you if you do not have this card and have not received a new Cardmember bonus for this card in the past 24 months."

Pretty nice deal.

The link is for PLUS and you have PREMIER. Those are two different cards. Yes, you can apply. I also signed up for PREMIER a few days ago and it is still in the mail. In a month or so, planning on applying for PLUS in order to get to 110K for their Companion Pass. If you are planning on applying for it message me for a referral code and when I apply for mine you can give me a referral code so we each can get 5000 points. Those 5K referral bonuses also count towards 110K in order to get the Companion Pass.

The Southwest business card also currently has a 60,000 mile bonus for spending $3,000.  If you do the personal and business, you will automatically have enough miles for the companion pass, which will be good through 2017 and 2018.

I got the Premier earlier this month and already hit the 2K spend (thanks to hospital bills, don't worry, I have the cash in the bank to pay off the Premier 2K). Is there any downside to getting the Plus as well like previous posters mentioned? That was my original plan but for some reason I'm second guessing that choice. Our upcoming plans require 7 round trip tickets so it seems like a no brainer (2 separate trips so one person could use the CP each trip).
I already have about 180,000 Chase points accumulated but the SW tickets are WAY cheaper than using the Chase points either through the portal or transferring to AA or a different airline, so I thought I would use those for the lodging rather than airfare.
Thanks for your patience, I'm new to the travel hack thing.

FYI, if you mean Chase Ultimate Reward points, they don't transfer to AA, but they do transfer to Southwest, among others.  As for hotels, I've found them a great deal for Hyatt.  Some are as low as 5000 points a night (cash equivalent to $50!)

Since you have 7 round trip Chase Sourtwest Plus is no brainer. So should get to 110K as soon as you can get your Companion pass. Also, remember 5K referral bonuses also count towards 110K in order to get the Companion Pass. Having said that, if you decide to get the card and need a referral code message me.

No worries on Chase Ultimate points. They don't expire and, as you said, you can use them for hotel stay, car rentals etc...

From what ive read, Chase UR doesn't transfer directly to Sw, I'd have to laundee thru hyatt or marriot and lose about 40% in the process, correct?

As far as I know, that is correct. There is no direct transfer.

Southwest is a partner with Chase UR points - one to one.

The problem is Ultimate Rewards transferred directly to Rapid Rewards do not count toward the 110,000 qualifying points threshold for the Companion Pass. But hotel points transferred in do count (at least until March 31). You can do the two step process for points to count towards Companion pass: First transfer Chase Ultimate Rewards points to Hyatt points. This is 1:1 transfer. Then transfer Hyatt points to Rapid Rewards. This is 25:12 transfer. You lose some points/value due to 25:12 conversion.
