I took an online course that I was interested in, because I couldn't take it in university. But I'm working now. So after work (8 hour day + 30 minutes of lunch + 20 minute commute + 20 minute commute back),I'd put in 4 hours of lectures. Then all of saturday and sunday I'd do homework and the weekly assignment. Back in uni I used to be able to handle several courses requiring such a high amount of studying.
So this week I had to do a couple hours extra work for work, and I've fallen behind on class. I stopped dating a girl that I'd been dating for about 6 months because I don't have time. I'm popping xanax every day to calm my ass down and sleep.

All I wanted to do is learn something interesting and add some color to the daily drudgery.

4 hours of lectures a day? The only thing I've heard of like that would be a highly accelerated course, and no, that doesn't go well while also working full time.

If this is a subject that you're taking simply because you're interested in it and are not concerned about earning a specific grade or applying the course to a degree, it doesn't sound like it's worth it. At least, perhaps not right now.

I teach online (as my side hustle) and had a student choose to take a grade of NC this past semester. He was working full time and caring for an elderly parent. Online learning was also new to him and he was struggling. Taking an NC rather than dropping the class allowed the student to continue access to the course materials throughout the semester and that's what he wanted.

Nightly Xanax + dropping girlfriend = no bueno.

Maybe it's time to contact your instructor. Good luck!

Why are you taking this course?

If it's just because you are "interested" is it worth to pop pills and drop your girl?
If it is for "career advancement" are you sure you are getting a good deal?

I thought about studying (part-time or full-time) but doing the math I discovered
that I can never break even on expenses (university fees and lost income) and a
Bachelor in CS itself is not that valuable to me.

Check your priorities :)

I'm in a similar situation, though my class does not sounds as bad as yours. My class is a five credit calculus class that has been eating my brain all semester.

I was treading water until the last few weeks when work because very stressful and other bad stuff.

My advice. Drop the class, chalk it up as a life lesson and move on. I'm guessing your having the same cost sunk conversation with yourself that I have been having. It's very hard to give up once you have put this much effort in but walk way before you burn out.

I'm in my last term of my MBA program- I've been a full-time student for just over two years while also working full-time, so I can relate. This semester is the first time I've had to enroll in three classes at once (in order to graduate in two weeks- I can't wait!), one of which is the capstone, so more intense than other courses. A few weeks ago, I was stressing over a work project, all my assignments, plus a major life change (I'm moving to a foreign country next month). Something had to give. So I asked my boss if I could take a Monday off, and I spent my three-day weekend catching up on homework and was even able to get ahead with some assignments. Because I got ahead with my homework three weeks ago, these last few weeks have been significantly easier, even though my work project and moving plans have been more intense.

You need balance in life. It's great that you want to study a new topic and I'm an avid supporter of lifelong learning, but you need to evaluate how important this class is to you and if it's worth letting it affect your health and personal relationships. If it's a short-term class you just need to get through, maybe you can buckle down and see it through. If this is a long-term thing, you need to figure out what your sustainable output is and then scale it back to that level so you don't burn yourself out.
