Selling clothes?

Anyone have advice on selling (mens) clothes?

I'm about to move and the thought of transferring clothes I haven't worn in years seems like madness. Not only that, but the idea of downsizing to a small, organized closet with a few quality items sounds almost therapeutic. Any way to make a few bucks off this?

When you donate clothes to one of the used clothing chains around here, they give you a voucher for a discount on buying their clothes. That's as good as I've been able to do, and I think you might find it difficult to do any better unfortunately. New clothes are just too cheap, and the sizes and selection available are huge, so most folks don't buy used.
My most expensive articles of clothing are custom made pants/shirts for work (I am an odd size person) but those would be impossible to sell as a result.

If you have a Plato's Closet in your area, take them in and get them appraised. You aren't going to make a mint on them, but it's better to get something.

Alternatively, craigslist/yard sale your collection.

Probably better off just donating them. Used clothes, especially adult men's clothes do not sell for much. Kids clothes and fashionable women's clothes might make a little money. You could try a clothing exchange store, but my experience is you get like $0.50 for a bag full of clothes.

Well, I do.  Especially when I'm due to replace my worn-to-hell hiking or DIY clothes.  A used pair of jeans is just as good as a new one for those purposes.  (And, to quote you, "...the selection available is huge...")

We have consignment shops around here that take clothes.

Since I never remember to take the deduction from Goodwill, I figure it works to drop them off there. If they don't accept it, they donate it to a charity- so it doesn't come back home with me. If they do accept it I get between $8 (for a pair of Nike shoes) to $0.20 (a pair of Old Navy shorts) per item.  I can take that as cash, which is better than a voucher for more clothes, IMO.

Definitely true, I've flipped clothes on Ebay for years and never had any luck selling men's clothes. If they are mid to high cost brands your best bet is a local consignment shop as others have suggested.

Although, now that I think about it- the best luck I've had selling men's clothes online was with my husband's clothes (even Old Navy quality stuff) because he is taller and slimmer than the norm-- so you might have some luck if you happen to be an unusual size.
