Santander Bank
« on: July 05, 2017, 02:54:21 PM »
Guys, please help!

I received a bonus from Santander Bank, fulfilled all terms and conditions and now I do not know how to close an account there. It looks like it is not possible to do it online. Customer Services is incompetent.  They are of no help.

Do you have experience with closing account with this bank?

:)

Thank you!

They closed my account without me asking them to, with about a grand locked up in it.  They say they mailed me a check for my balance but I never got it.  When I called, they first wanted me to visit a branch, but the closest one is about 450 miles away.  Eventually they said they will send me "another" check.  That was last week.  We'll see.

YMMV.

I had a bad experience with this bank. While trying to use one of their ATMs in Mexico the machine rejected my card several times. I finally gave up. I checked my bank account when I got back home to the US and they withdrew the money from my account! It was a big hassle trying to get it resolved. I am staying far away from Santander bank.

This is exactly my plan - to stay away from this bank but first to try to close account and receive my money plus bonus of $225 that I received according to promotion (so not worth the worry).

Oh my!

I did the $10 direct deposit and $10 online bill pay for a year and a half or so.  Once they dropped it I called and told them to cancel my account.  I didn't have any problems.

My wife and I just closed our accounts.  We initially tried using the messaging service online but the request to close was rejected and we both had to call, speak to a rep, who then had to get a supervisor on the phone to actually close the account.

It was a pain in the ass and I probably won't look to receive a future bank bonus again.

Cheers

I just got the $225 bonus from Santander and I opened and closed my account without setting foot in a branch.

To close it I sent myself a check of my entire balance via online Billpay, deposited in my (non-Santander) checking account  (thus reducing my account balance to zero), waited a week to make sure all had cleared successfully, and then called them up and they closed my account.

I went into a branch to close my Santander account, but when I wanted to close another bank account, I sent a letter with the account information and my signature requesting to close the account. A week letter, I had a check in my mailbox. It was only $5 or so, as I had transferred all the money out already.

The ONE time my bank account got compromised was when I used a Santander Bank ATM (in Mexico).  Bastards withdrew $800 before I caught it.

Lucky you! I tried to transfer funds to my other bank but online banking demanded my debit or credit card number and PIN which I do not have. Customer service were not able to help. I will try to call them again (deep sigh).

It was a different bank, so the address probably wouldn't help you. ;) I just sent it to the local branch. I would look up the nearest branch to you (even if it's very far away) and sent the letter to that address. If they can't handle it at that branch, they will send it to their back office. Either way, it will get taken care of. (I used to work in banking.) You just have to make sure you time it so you don't end up with a service fee in the meantime.

Ok, I figured this out.

I called customer service and told them that I could not transfer and close account myself because I did not receive debit card and PIN number.

They gave address to send letter to:

Santander Bank N.A.
Fulfillment Center
Mail Code: RI1-EPV-0218
PO BOX 831001
Boston , MA 02283-1001

They will send me a check to my home address.
