Retirement Accounts & Forecasting - How far out?
« on: November 29, 2018, 06:42:44 AM »
Does anyone else continue to forecast your retirement values (and growth) beyond the reasonable time that you'll be alive? I was updating my spreadsheet this morning for all of our different accounts and noticed that I must have copied and pasted the formulas for over 100 years of investing when I originally created the file and hadn't scrolled down in a while. If I were alive to see the final year of my investing chart I would set the new world record as it would put me at 126 years old (122.83 is the record).

Has anyone else done this? If nothing else, I like to see the continued growth plan and think of what future generations could do with this money or the possibility of a large grant(s), trust(s), etc to be purposed for something meaningful to us down the road.

I project out to age 100, even though we probably will die younger.

I go out to 110 on mine, because I'm banking on biotech extending my life. I still have hope I can be uploaded to the cloud before the body gives out. Keep working hard tech people, keep working hard.

I usually forecast to 95. Even then there's still plenty left to take care of more years of living. Unless I'm robustly healthy I don't want to live that long anyway!
