Republic Wireless phone
« on: August 13, 2013, 04:37:16 PM »
We bought phones from Republic Wireless several months ago and I hate mine.  About 30% of the time it won't make calls out (I am ranting because I just tried to call 5x and it wouldn't connect to anyone.). This is true in my living room next to my wifi router, and standing on the street.  I can't move around when I talk on the phone or it will drop the call.  The best thing about this phone is the flashlight.  I like that.
Do other people have these issues with their phone from them?  Do I need a new phone, or is their service just crappy?  My wife's phone is better than mine, but hers definitely does not work as well as when we had Verizon.  When we move in a month we will get a better router, but I am not sure that is the issue because I often can't make calls from outside the house too.

This is why I don't recommend Republic over in the Superguide, as the problem is in its execution. The only way to fix the issue is to switch to a better provider that doesn't depend on VoIP over wireless internet to work.

I'm responding from my Republic Wireless phone right now- I've only had that problem one time, overall I couldn't be happier with the product

Perhaps related, perhaps not, I got a message from Republic on the 13th stating that there was some trouble making outbound calls over cellular network.  Hopefully its a rare or one-off event.

Still toying with phone/service myself (got it last week).  There are indeed kinks, but I find it to be entirely adequate for my needs, and the cost is right (can always change in future if service underwhelms longer term -- following I.P.'s superguide, of course).

Besides, with all his fancy vacationing and free construction services, I thought the boss could use the referral bonus!

I've had mine for about 2 months now, and yesterday was the first time I had a problem with it.   Same issue as you- tried to make an OB call several times and it wouldn't connect.

I don't have a ton of experience because I only use it as a phone 2-3 times per week, but I have been EXTREMELY impressed with the browsing aspect of it.  Way better than my old service with Sprint, which is odd considering the partnership.

Happy with ours. Although I will say it is a Kia, not a Cadillac. But for what we need, it's worth saving $1,400 per year.

Also, have you contacted their customer service?  Perhaps you just have a defective phone.  We had to have a new phone sent to us b/c the SO lost his two weeks after we got them (SIGH) and they were lightening fast and super helpful!

Ahh. I didn't get that message, but the only time that it happened was on the 13th as well. Good to know.
