I personally haven't done this, but what you're basically doing is turning your home into a vacation home. In the right market this is definitely do-able, especially if there are events or anything special that draws a bunch of people into your area for short times during the year (or a season, depending on where your house is). These homes tend to be a little nicer, though, to demand the $2k (or there abouts) rent.
