Redefining Career - Suggestions?
« on: May 17, 2016, 02:41:49 PM »
Hi all!

This is my first post.  I've been an avid reader of MMM for over a year now thanks to a fellow Mustachian at my previous job.  My first post seems fitting with the recent new piece on technology.

I am a Finance Manager at a Car dealership.  Yes, the guy that everybody on this forum absolutely looks down upon. To be fair, I took the job for the money and the resume building.  My background consists of an undergrad degree in Political Science and Economics, a masters in Ag & Applied Economics/Water Resources, and various jobs that show absolutely no relation to one another (whitewater raft guide, research assistant, golf course bag boy, and Finance Manager).  My current job is absolutely terrible.  I am in desperate need of a career change and ever since I've been looking for professional work, have never landed anything.  This brings my story to now.  I need to somehow re-invent myself to find a new opportunity (something in Finance that touches on computer science).  Does anybody have any recommendations based on what they see going on in their own cities or professions?

Also, In trying to reinvent myself I've been looking at blockchain and its potential impact in the financial sector.  I feel there is a very real systemic shift that will take place and would like to somehow get involved.  In saying this, does anybody have any recommendation of how to get a foot in a door in any house that may whisper the words of blockchain?

I just see such a huge potential for peer to peer lending for community businesses (imagine being able to donate $25 to the restaurant down the street that you love, along with 100 other donors, so they can redo their patio...or maybe donating $1000 and being a shareholder...just thinking out loud, sort of like a lending club meets venture capitalist site).  The key is investing close to your home so you can see the change!

Also, any personal recommendations or critiques are welcomed.  My apologies in advance for my first post being about me...I'm just at a point in my life where I need to seriously change my current path.  This is also why there probably is not one direct question being asked by me.

I look forward to all responses as I value the judgement of the MMM community.
