Quittin Song List
« on: April 07, 2016, 11:26:48 PM »
We got talking at work about the song you would play as you walk out for the last time. Someone saw a guy quit at Sbucks and they all sang him out or something. I thought of "Bang on My Drum All Day". Anyone have better suggestions?

I am a former teacher who accumulated a bunch of real estate, retired at 29, spent some time traveling the world full time and am now settled with three kids.
If you want to know more about me, this Business Insider profile tells the story pretty well.
I (rarely) blog at AdventuringAlong.com. Check out the Now page to see what I'm up to currently.

Oh, come on.  There's only one.  "Take This Job and Shove It."  Played on country stations all over the US at 5 PM on Fridays.

I'd go with "All I Want" by The Offspring, but plenty of good suggestions already.

That was definitely the first one that came to mind for me.

Big mistake, always quit on Monday to get paid for your weekend.

Excellent choice. A favorite karaoke song of mine too. I just wish I didn't butcher it so badly. RIP Freddie.

Then there is the quote from the Bob Dylan song "Things Have Changed" that I considered putting on the office door after 5 PM the Friday I retired...

People are crazy and times are strange
 I’m locked in tight, I’m out of range
 I used to care, but things have changed

My favorite song for this is Sugerland "gotta be something more" my boss asked all of us to give her a song that represented us. i kept telling her I don't think she wants my song, finally gave it to her. She would play the songs at meetings when someone would be talking. It was cute the way she did this but needless to say she asked for a different song once she heard it.

Everything is a Rush song.  Everything.

Rush - Fly By Night full lyricsl
<snippet>
Why try? I know why
The feeling inside me says it's time I was gone
Clear head, new life ahead
It's time I was king now -- not just one more pawn

Rush - The Analog Kid full lyrics
<snippet>
Too many hands on my time
Too many feelings
Too many things on my mind
When I leave I don't know
What I'm hoping to find
When I leave I don't know
What I'm leaving behind...

Rush - Subdivisions full lyrics
<snippet>
Some will sell their dreams for small desires
Or lose the race to rats
Get caught in ticking traps
And start to dream of somewhere
To relax their restless flight

Supertramp - Goodbye Stranger (lyrics)

Contains this gem:
Quote
You can laugh at my behaviour
And that'll never bother me
Say the devil is my saviour
But I don't pay no heed

And I will go on shining
Shining like brand new
I'll never look behind me
My troubles will be few

Goodbye, stranger, it's been nice
Hope you find your paradise
Tried to see your point of view
Hope your dreams will all come true

Some really good stuff here. Saw a similar article on The Escapist and he had George Michael's "Freedom", I read the lyrics and realized I never knew how cool the song was, always liked it though.

And yes Cyaphas, as my avatar might suggests, Freddie was the greatest and is missed every day.
